There’s more than mango going through the dryers at Baobab.

Based in Hoedspruit, Baobab is best known for producing quality dried mango for discerning international markets. But the facility’s capabilities extend beyond mango, with the team able to dry and process a range of other plant materials. This includes working with South African indigenous botanicals, supporting the careful processing of locally sourced plant materials for a variety of applications.

The mango harvesting season will kick off towards the end of the year, and we’re keeping a close eye on early indications of fruit quality.

The past season, exceptionally high Anthracnose pressure and unusually low sugar levels in the Keitt variety, meant a significant portion of the raw fruit could not be utilised for drying.

To our growers: may all the elements work together to produce an excellent crop!

One could say that every month should be women's month at Baobab!

Some of the most important work is done by hand - again and again - with speed, concentration and an eye for the small details.

Our women do this work every day, and they’re good at it. There’s a rhythm to the way they work: experienced hands moving quickly, knowing what to keep, what to remove and what needs a second look.

We thank you for your speed, your care, your sharp eyes — and for doing the work that helps turn good fruit into a product we’re proud to share with the world.

Albert Einstein said: Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience. You need experience to gain wisdom.

Mr Einstein gets a nod from our team! Every member of the Baobab management team has at least 15 years of experience - specifically in mango drying. Some of them even boasts 30 years in the industry. Imagine the value and depth of insight that brings to the table.

Fortunate to be part of an industry that supports healthier snacking choices — and to see growing global demand for products that deliver both nutrition and quality.

The rising popularity of dried fruit as a snack choice for both adults and children reflects a broader shift towards more mindful consumption. Naturally rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fibre — all largely retained during the drying process — dried fruit offers a wholesome alternative to heavily processed, sugar-based snacks.

Typically Baobab's product is sold in bulk to clients with blue chip retail customers in Spain, the UK, Switzerland and elsewhere.

"Our focus is on higher-end customers who require guaranteed supply of consistent quality and good traceability and certifications. ESG is also important for most of these customers, especially in EU and UK – and our farms are fully compliant,” says operational manager Willie Jacobs.
