REVIEW: New Spot in Bedfordview — R100 smash burger + side at Meatboard & Co 🇿🇦
Found a couple months old spot in Bedfordview worth telling you about — Meatboard & Co. 🥩
What makes it different: it's a butchery AND a grill under one roof. The meat comes off their own block and goes straight to the flame — fresh, not frozen. Marble walls, smart furniture, proper Bedfordview style, but the food's the real story.
Here's the value: a smash burger with a side for R100 (about £4.50). Genuinely tasty — above average, and fresh beef you can taste the difference on. And if you're just passing in the morning, they run a walk-by special — boerewors roll for R30, bacon & egg for R50. Quick, cheap, done.
My honest verdict — Taste 8/10, Value 8/10. Kief Approved ✅. As always, I paid my own bill. 🧾

REVIEW: Sunday & Wednesday Special in Sandton — R240 all-you-can-eat at Chunky Chau 🇿🇦
Went to Chunky Chau in Morningside and honestly? Didn't expect this one. No mall, no parking mission — just open grass and a playground for the kids while you eat. 🌳
Here's the deal: à la carte, it's proper Sandton pricing. But on Sundays and Wednesday nights it turns into ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT Korean bao burgers, dumplings, sushi and more for R240 a head (about £10). Bottomless. 🤯
The potstickers with that green sauce nearly finished me before the bao even arrived. Loaded, messy, every flavour a winner.
My verdict — Taste 8/10, Value 8.5/10 on the buffet. As always, I paid my own bill and the slip's in the video. 🧾

🌶️ Jumie The Deal Destroyer Took On The Hottest Pizza in Africa — And Lost.
Smack Pizza created a challenge pizza: 3.5 MILLION Scoville units. The Hottest Pizza in Africa. R200.
Jumie said he could handle it. We didn't believe him but three of us joined to share the pain. We were also wrong.
The verdict:
🍕 Smack Pizza's regular menu: 9/10 ✅ (genuinely great NY-style wood-fired pizza — 8 locations across Joburg, go eat there)
☠️ The Chilli Challenge Pizza specifically: 0.5/10 taste, 5/10 value
We're not saying don't visit Smack Pizza. We're saying don't order THIS pizza unless you genuinely want to suffer for R200 and have tender tummies for two days afterwards.
Jumie ate 1.5 bites. Jumie has seen things now. Jumie is a different man.

🥩 Upmarket Eats — Found Joburg's Best Kept Steakhouse Secret
Kicking off a new series on the page — Upmarket Eats — where I find the fancy spots that are actually a deal. The places worth dressing up for, without the price tag you'd expect.
First stop: George's Grill House at Bedford Centre. Serving proper steaks in Joburg since 1972 — and most people have no idea what they're missing.
The numbers tell the story:
🥩 250g Sizzling Sirloin Special — R149
🦐 Surf & Turf (250g sirloin + prawns!) — R199
🍻 Two meals + two beers = R503 total
The same cut at other upmarket steakhouses in Joburg runs R250–R310. You're getting proper restaurant quality — dry-aged 28–32 days in their own fridge, served in copper sauce pots, that proper old-school steakhouse atmosphere — at almost HALF the price.
My sister flew up from Cape Town and I wanted to take her somewhere special without breaking the bank. This was perfect.

🍔 Two Burgers + Soda for R99 — AND There's a Prayer Room Inside the Restaurant
Found something special this week at Greenstone Mall, Edenvale. Tasty Gallos — fully SANHA Halaal certified. Paid for the meal myself, slip's in the video, honest review through and through.
What blew me away: ☪️ Fully Halaal certified | 🕌 Prayer room inside the restaurant | 💧 Wudu facilities right there | 👩‍🍳 The friendliest lady owner you'll meet | 🍔 Two burgers + a soda for R99 | 👶 Kiddies meal for R45.90
This is a proper community spot. Doesn't matter your background — everyone can eat here worry-free, and the value is unreal for a sit-down meal in Greenstone.

🛒 The Shop Most South Africans Are Sleeping On
I spent R431 at Best Before and walked out with a trolley full of brand name snack. They have Dove, Calistos, AXE, baby stuff, drinks, the lot.
Here's the thing nobody explains: Best Before is NOT an expiry date. It's a quality date. The food and products are still completely safe — just discounted because they're closer to that date. That's why this shop is a game-changer for families trying to stretch the budget right now.
I taste-tested 4 things from my haul — the Calistos Mexican Chilli Relish at R45 blew me away (5/5). The little Italian chilli sauce at R13 was all flavour, no heat (3/5).

The 20|30 special is back on the 20th — cappuccino and nata OR prego roll and chips, both R30. That's honestly mad value and I can't stop going back.
