These are our Duroc cross Koelbroek piglets at 8 weeks, they were weaned yesterday. They look amazing! The boar was a Duroc and the Sow a Koelbroek.

Shame, mommy was very extremely aggressive when we had to wean the babies but, we just had to wean them as she looked physically drained from milking and the health of our pigs matter the most. We will boost mommy with some multivitamins in her drinking water while providing a balanced and nutritional diet.

I look forward to seeing these little ones grow and for mommy recovering well and gaining back her physique!🤞😃🐷

🐰🏆 WINNING WEEKEND AT THE WINTER SHOW! 🏆🐰

What an incredible, unforgettable weekend it was for Village in The Cradle Farm! On the 27th and 28th of June, we packed up our best ears and headed over to the Walkerville Agricultural Showgrounds for the annual Rabbit Winter Show.

This year was extra special, as it was hosted by the Gauteng Rabbit Breeders Association (GRBA) in a historic first-time partnership with the Natal Rabbit Club (NRC) and our very own club, the Rabbit Farmers South Africa Association (RFSAA)! 🇿🇦
With over 20 passionate exhibitors, the competition was tough and the barns were buzzing. The show floor was a beautiful showcase of South Africa's legal commercial and fancy breeds, including:

- The Fancies: Elegant Netherland Dwarfs, fluffy Jersey Woolies, gorgeous Satins, charismatic Lops, Rexes, and Angoras, etc.

- The Commercials & Giants: Powerful New Zealand Whites, Chinchilla Gigantas, Flemish Giants, Californians, and South Africa's own SA Phendulas.

🎉 Our Big Bragging Rights! 🎉
As only our second show since we embarked on this rabbit journey two years ago, we are absolutely over the moon with our results:
🥈 SA Phendula Buck – Won Reserve Best of Breed!
🥈 New Zealand White Doe – Won Reserve Best of Breed!
🥉 Plus, we took home 2nd and 3rd place ribbons with our other wonderful rabbits!

Why We Show: It’s More Than Just Ribbons
While the ribbons are amazing, participating in official shows means so much more to us at Village in The Cradle Farm.

Showing rabbits is the ultimate benchmark for ethical breeding, health, and wellbeing. When judges evaluate our rabbits, they aren't just looking at beauty, they are checking for structural soundness, top-tier condition, excellent health, and temperament.

By putting our rabbits on the show table, we ensure that we are raising animals to the highest possible standards. It holds us accountable to ethical practices, helps eliminate genetic health issues, and promotes the preservation of these incredible breeds in South Africa. Healthy, happy, and standard-conforming rabbits are always our number one priority!

A massive thank you to GRBA, NRC, and RFSAA for putting together a stellar event, to the judges for their invaluable feedback, and to everyone who cheered us on.

Here’s to many more years of ethical breeding and showing! 🥂🐇

🐾 The Ultimate Ancestral Dog Treats: Limited Pre-Orders Open!

Ever wonder what makes a dog’s gut truly happy? The answer is simple: nature, pure and unfiltered.

In exactly 2 weeks, we are launching our small-batch, 100% natural, sun-dried rabbit treats—including hides, ears, and feet - straight from our pastures here at Village in the Cradle Farm. Because we prioritize natural, regenerative farming, these boutique treats are completely free from artificial chemicals, preservatives, or hormones.

Stocks are strictly limited, and we are opening up pre-orders today!

💡 Why Rabbit Treats are a Game-Changer for Your Dog
Rabbit is a fantastic, highly digestible "novel protein," making it perfect for dogs with sensitive stomachs or food allergies. But the real magic lies in the ears, feet, and hides with the fur left on:

- Natural Gut Regulator (The Fur Effect): Rabbit ears and hides with the fur intact act as a natural, non-digestible brush for the digestive tract. As the fur passes through the intestines, it gently cleans away old food residue and debris, improving nutrient absorption and acting as a natural mechanism to help clear out intestinal worms.

- Ultimate Joint Support: Rabbit feet are packed with natural glucosamine and chondroitin. These are the essential building blocks for healthy joint cartilage, keeping your pup agile and active.

- Built-in Toothbrush: Crunching down on dehydrated ears and feet provides excellent mental stimulation while naturally scraping away plaque and tartar buildup.

- High Protein, Low Fat: A lean, clean treat that satisfies their instinctual chewing urges without adding unwanted weight.

📦 Secure Your Batch Today (Stocks are Limited)
Because we prioritize quality over speed and rely entirely on the natural sun-drying process, our production volumes are small and boutique. Once this batch is gone, there will be a waiting period for the next natural drying cycle.

How to Order: Drop us a direct message right now or comment below to reserve your dog's ancestral treats before the official launch in two weeks! Let us know if you want to mix and match ears, feet, or hides.

📍 Locally and naturally produced in the Cradle of Humankind region.

It's been a year since I last heated up our Defy Dover! Sitting next to this fire, I can't help but be grateful for what God has given us.

Despite the circumstances of being a first generation farmer, having started right at the bottom, without funding, even till this day. I believe God will help us prosper!

It has been over three months since I last posted, and to be completely transparent, it’s because the road has been incredibly heavy. I’ve had to endure some of the most difficult, exhausting, and challenging times of my life. 😔

Those who are close to me, the ones I’ve bared my soul to during this time, will tell you just how close I was to giving up. I wanted to throw in the towel. After facing setback after setback and losing so much hard-earned money in the process, there were days I genuinely felt like I was just being followed by bad luck.

In those darkest moments, the only thing that kept me anchored was a quiet, constant reminder to myself: "I started this journey because I deeply, truly love farming."

Sitting here today and deeply reflecting on this journey, I know I have a choice. I could easily share the videos and images of the painful events that recently shook my world.

But I’ve come to realize that it’s not the bad things that happen to us that shape us - it’s who we choose to become when we face those challenges head-on.

I could choose to stay down and feel defeated, but instead, I choose victory.
I am so incredibly humbled and grateful that God has neither left nor forsaken me during this storm. Even when the path ahead seemed completely dark, He continued to light my way and bless me with His mercies, which truly are new every single morning. Because of His grace, I have overcome.

Progress Through the Pain: Our Regenerative Update 🐷🌾

Because I choose to focus on the light, I want to share the beautiful progress that has been happening on our regenerative farm, even amidst the chaos.

Today, I'm showcasing our brand-new solar-powered electric fence setup! This system allows us to create individual camps for our pigs, giving them full access to rotational grazing.

This milestone is a massive win for our farm on two fronts:
For our beautiful pigs: It keeps them incredibly strong, healthy, and happy! 😃 They get constant access to fresh pasture, allowing them to root, forage, and live exactly as nature intended.

For our soil: From a regenerative perspective, this is where the magic happens. By moving the pigs to fresh ground regularly, they naturally disturb the soil just enough to stimulate new plant growth, while their manure acts as a rich, organic fertilizer. Because they are rotated frequently, the land gets the vital rest it needs to recover, build deep root systems, and restore the ecosystem.

Thank you to everyone who held me up when I felt like falling. We are not just surviving; we are thriving, growing, and farming with purpose. ❤️

Raising pigs on pasture has never looked this easy 😃

No antibiotics, no growth hormones or stimulants, just nature!

This is slow and natural grown pork!

Ever wonder how we prep our soil without heavy machinery or harsh chemicals? Meet our "Pig Tractors!"

We move our younger pigs to fresh pasture and weeds every 2 days. This rotational grazing method is a win-win for the animals and the Earth.

Why the "Pig Tractor" Method Works:
- Fresh Buffet: By moving every 48 hours, our pigs always have access to clean, nutrient-dense forage and crunchy weeds.

- Health & Hygiene: Constant movement keeps them away from their own waste, breaking parasite cycles naturally without needing heavy medication.

- Graduation Day: This system keeps our younger pigs safe and well-fed until they are mature enough to join the "big leagues" in the larger camps with the older herd.

The Regenerative Magic

Just look at how well they’ve cleaned up this area! They aren't just eating; they are working. By rooting around, they’ve cleared the brush and naturally tilled the surface.

1. Natural Fertilizer: As they move, they leave behind high-quality manure, prepping the ground with nitrogen and organic matter.
2. Ready for Planting: Now that they’ve cleared the vegetation, we can easily go in, remove the small stones and rocks, and start planting immediately.
3. Soil Health: Instead of depleting the land, we are building it back up. This is regenerative farming in action. Leaving the soil better than we found it.

Healthy Soil = Healthy Pigs = Better Food for You. 🌿

06/03/2026

This is our moveable piglets structure or tractor which we move every 3 to 5 days for the piglets to have access to fresh pasture. This system is still in trial, but it's working perfectly so far!
