Royal Ascot represents the pinnacle of horse racing, where simply having a runner is a world-class achievement.

Expert Eye knows what it takes to succeed on this stage, having captured the prestigious Jersey Stakes (G3) during his racing career.

This year, he is represented by five of his top-class progeny, headed by the globetrotting Snellen, who takes her place in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes (G2).

Expert Eye is an internationally proven sire, what else could you ask for?

The larger than life son of Rafeef, African Pride, traveled down to Durban, from Joburg, and won for the second time in six days—taking his record to 4 wins from 12 starts.

These promising performances are a great indication before the major sprint races ahead in the Durban season.

Congratulations to all the connections and the Spies Racing team for producing this hulk of an individual so well.

Promising Paardeberg Three-Year-Olds

At Turffontein, on Sunday the 7th of June, two Paardeberg three-year-olds took center stage.

African Pride (Rafeef) made his comeback after a near four month layoff, in Race 4, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m, against highly regarded horses such as Mount Pinatubo and G1 winner William Robertson. He pinged the gates in his usual fashion and won the race by 2 lengths, in 56.19 seconds—taking his record to 3 wins and 5 places from 11 starts and increasing his MR to 107.

Errol Flynn (Master Of My Fate) dominated the field once more, in Race 6, the Non-Blacktype Egoli Mile, winning by 2.6 lengths—taking his record to 4 wins and 1 place from 6 starts and increasing his MR to 108.

Both colts were sold at the 2024 Bloodstock South Africa Sales, forming part of our first ever sales consignments as Paardeberg Stud.

Congratulations to all the connections of these promising individuals, we wish you abundant success.

It is no simple feat to produce horses of this calibre in any country, let alone in the very nation that has produced some of the greatest racehorses of all time. Yet Expert Eye continues to prove himself time and again.

Witness Stand—winner of the G2 Lennox Stakes and runner-up in the G2 Hungerford Stakes, among numerous other stakes victories and placings—once again showcased his quality when narrowly denied in the G3 Tattenham Corner Stakes, losing only by the shortest of margins after leading from start to finish.

It is the heart and willingness to fight that make the progeny of Expert Eye such admirable athletes.

Berry Clever, the consistent son of Expert Eye recorded his fourth career victory, winning over 1400m in another polished performance.

A wonderfully reliable horse, Berry Clever has now won twice and placed three times from his last five starts, continuing his excellent run of form.

Congratulations to all the connections of the impressive winner, Life In Colour.

Life In Colour becomes the second Paardeberg-bred two-year-old to run this season — and our second winner, continuing an exciting start for our young runners.

He is also the half-brother to the highly regarded African Pride, who remains in training with the Spies team.

A wonderful result for everyone involved, and an encouraging update for this progressive family. 🥂
