Home of Survivor:

The history of the Nguni cattle is etched deeply into the soil of South Africa. A series of great migrations of Nguni-speaking people brought this uniquely identifiable species into our country over 2 000 years ago, and they are synonymous with wealth and status. It’s this venerable tradition, and the story of one particular Nguni cow called Survivor, that brought about Survivor Wines. Being trans

ported from one farm to the next a Nguni cow decided she had travelled far enough and jumped. Farm owner Danie Rust found her, without any serious injuries, in his Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard and promptly named her Survivor. Like her, our wines start with a leap in the vineyard and in true Nguni spirit our grapes are now sourced not only from the Swartland, but also the Elgin Valley, Darling, Tradouw and Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, to compose the unique complexity and diversity of the red and white wines in the Survivor Range. Our winemakers intensely debated which regions possessed the perfect balance of rainfall, clay, shale and granite content, so that opening a bottle of Survivor allows you to experience the essence of these terroirs. Survivor Wines are as distinctly South African as the Nguni cow that inspired them.

Two Pinotages, two very different expressions of Survivor, both shaped by the hand of Cellar Master Pierre Wahl, affectionately known as South Africa’s Pope of Pinotage.

The Survivor Reserve Pinotage 2022 is the more concentrated of the two. Made from low yielding Swartland bush vines and matured in oak before only the finest barrels were selected, it shows ripe plum, blackberry, cherries and blueberries, layered with cinnamon, vanilla and a gentle savoury spice. It is full bodied, structured and built with both power and finesse.

The Survivor Terroir Pinotage 2023 takes a brighter, more expressive approach. Raspberry, juicy plum and wild strawberry lead the nose, followed by dark cherry, mulberry, aniseed, cinnamon and a touch of vanilla spice. The palate is velvety and balanced, with supple tannins and a long finish of red berries, cocoa and warm spice.

Same cultivar, same cellar master, but two completely different stories of Swartland Pinotage.

A Chardonnay with soul. Beautifully textured, richly layered and made with the kind of care that reminds you why Chardonnay is a classic. Think nectarine, lemon zest and a touch of French oak.

The Survivor Cellar Master Series Cabernet Franc Merlot is a wine defined by depth, elegance and rarity, with only 2,300 bottles produced.

Crafted from 85% Cabernet Franc and 15% Merlot from the Tradouw Valley, the blend brings together red currant, plum and mulberry with notes of cedar, violets and rose petals. Fine grained tannins and a long, chalky finish give the wine structure without losing its finesse.

A limited release with both character and collectability.
