Home of Survivor:

The history of the Nguni cattle is etched deeply into the soil of South Africa. A series of great migrations of Nguni-speaking people brought this uniquely identifiable species into our country over 2 000 years ago, and they are synonymous with wealth and status. It’s this venerable tradition, and the story of one particular Nguni cow called Survivor, that brought about Survivor Wines. Being trans

ported from one farm to the next a Nguni cow decided she had travelled far enough and jumped. Farm owner Danie Rust found her, without any serious injuries, in his Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard and promptly named her Survivor. Like her, our wines start with a leap in the vineyard and in true Nguni spirit our grapes are now sourced not only from the Swartland, but also the Elgin Valley, Darling, Tradouw and Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, to compose the unique complexity and diversity of the red and white wines in the Survivor Range. Our winemakers intensely debated which regions possessed the perfect balance of rainfall, clay, shale and granite content, so that opening a bottle of Survivor allows you to experience the essence of these terroirs. Survivor Wines are as distinctly South African as the Nguni cow that inspired them.

To our new followers, if you haven’t heard the story of Survivor, here it is 🐄

Years ago, a bold Nguni cow took a leap of faith, jumping off a moving truck and landing in a vineyard in the Swartland. That single moment changed everything, it inspired a wine brand named Survivor that celebrates courage, heritage, and the beauty of South African terroir.

And this bull you see in the photo? That’s Kingsley, the very last calf of Survivor.

Today, Kingsley stands proudly at in Paarl, the new home of Survivor Wines. Every morning, he wakes to the view of Table Mountain and the rolling vineyards that now surround him, the same kind of vineyards his mother first landed in after her brave leap.

Kingsley carries her legacy forward, strong, proud, and unforgettable.

So next time you’re in Paarl, come visit Landskroon, the Home of Survivor, and meet the living symbol of where this incredible story began.

Today is one of those days where we simply can’t stop looking at these Survivor bottles.

A wine called Survivor, standing strong after the flood. If you know the story behind the brand, you’ll know why this feels so special to us.

Survivor was inspired by the remarkable Nguni cow that took a leap of faith, jumping from a truck and finding a new path forward. Resilience has always been at the heart of this brand, and seeing these bottles emerge after everything they’ve been through is a sight we won’t forget anytime soon.

For those who have been asking whether these bottles will be available for sale, we can’t say anything just yet. Every bottle still needs to be carefully inspected as we work through the recovery process.

For now, we’re simply grateful for moments like this and the stories they tell.

Keep an eye on our page as we continue sharing the journey. 🍷

As the weekend arrives and winter settles in, there is something fitting about opening a bottle rooted in South African heritage.

Survivor Wines was born from an extraordinary story of courage, inspired by a Nguni cow that leapt from a moving truck and found her way into the vineyards of the Swartland. That spirit of resilience remains woven into every bottle we produce today.

Whether your table is set with Karoo lamb, slow-cooked dishes or simply good company gathered around a fire, there is a Survivor wine waiting for the occasion.

All Survivor Wines are available at our tasting room in Paarl, where guests can experience the home of Survivor alongside exceptional wines and pairings.

Some wines simply belong to winter. Survivor Reserve Pinotage is one of them.

Crafted from low-yielding Swartland bush vines and selected from only the finest barrels after a rigorous process, this Reserve reflects both precision and patience. Under the expertise of Cellar Master Pierre Wahl, often referred to as the “Pope of Pinotage”, the wine reveals intense aromas of red berries, cinnamon spice and ripe plums, carried through onto a full-bodied palate layered with hints of vanilla and gentle coconut spice.

Structured, elegant and continually evolving in the glass, each sip tells a different part of the story.

Our Survivor Reserve Pinotage is currently on special online, and available to enjoy at our Survivor Wines tasting room in Paarl.
