Brazilian-Inspired Chicken Skewers with Garlic Butter Pap
Friday night football calls for flame-grilled flavour! Bring a taste of Brazil to your match-night table with juicy, spiced chicken skewers served with a proudly South African garlic butter pap twist.
Itβs smoky, simple, family-friendly and perfect for enjoying before kick-off. All ingredients are available at Pick n Pay stores nationwide.

Ingredients:
For the skewers:
π 600g Pick n Pay chicken breast fillets or boneless thighs, cut into cubes
π 2 tbsp cooking oil
π 2 tbsp lemon juice
π 2 tsp crushed garlic
π 1 tsp paprika
π 1 tsp ground cumin
π Β½ tsp chilli flakes, optional
π 1 tsp salt
π Β½ tsp black pepper
π 1 red pepper, cut into chunks
π 1 yellow pepper, cut into chunks
π 1 red onion, cut into chunks
π Wooden or metal skewers
For the garlic butter pap:
π 2 cups maize meal
π 5 cups water
π 1 tsp salt
π 3 tbsp butter
π 1 tsp crushed garlic
π Β½ cup grated cheddar cheese, optional
π 2 tbsp chopped parsley or coriander, optional
Method:
1. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 20 minutes.
2. Place chicken in a bowl. Add oil, lemon juice, garlic, paprika, cumin, chilli flakes, salt and pepper. Mix well and marinate for 10β15 minutes.
3. Thread chicken, peppers and onion onto the skewers.
4. Braai or grill over medium heat for 10β12 minutes, turning often, until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred.
5. For the pap, bring water and salt to the boil. Slowly whisk in maize meal, reduce the heat, cover and cook for 20β25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
6. Melt butter in a small pan, add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Stir the garlic butter into the pap. Add cheese if using.
7. Serve the skewers hot with garlic butter pap and a sprinkle of herbs.
