The story of Spijker
Spijker is named after the “stoetbul” (stud bull) of the late iconic South African wine celebrity Francis “Duimpie” Bayly.
Duimpie, whose favorite hobby was cattle breeding, was our neighbour and a close family friend.
On the day I presented him a bottle of the finished product, he became very emotional. “I’ve been honoured many times in my life, but this is the first time I’ve been honoured with a bottle of wine,” he exclaimed, shocked and surprised.
Duimpie’s legend, as well as that of his bull Spijker, will now live on!
