INFECTIOUS CORYZA
The bacterium responsible for infectious coryza is Avibacterium paragallinarum. Infectious Coryza can be mild or obvious. It is spread by nasal dropping while the birds cough or sneeze. Damp litter is a good ground for the disease causing bacteria to thrive.
Obvious signs include:
1. Nasal discharge
2. Watery & sticky eyes
3. Facial swelling (eyes, sinuses)
4. Drop in feed & water intake
5. Difficulty breathing. It may be labored, sneezing, snoring, etc
Prevention
1. Maintain a strict Bio-Security
2. Administer the right antibiotics (Preventive dose as at when due)
3. Maintain a dry litter
4. Allow for cross ventilation
Treatment
The use of antibiotics like
1. Enrofloxacin
2. Oxytetracycline
3. Amoxicillin
4. Erythromycin etc will suffice.
