The story behind the wine🍷

We’re incredibly proud to share this feature on our winemaker and founder, Joshua van Blommestein, in the August 2026 edition of Wineland.

From growing up far from the Cape Winelands, to discovering his passion for winemaking as a teenager, studying viticulture and oenology, and gaining experience across some of South Africa’s wine estates — Joshua’s journey has always been about understanding the relationship between wine and place.

Today, that philosophy sits at the heart of Van Blommestein Wines.

For Joshua, every wine should tell the story of where it comes from — the soil, the stones, the wind, the climate and the people behind the vineyard.

Our wines are small in scale, personal in character, and made with a deep respect for terroir and a true sense of place.

Thank you to Wineland and Ingerése Schoeman for telling Joshua’s story and giving a glimpse into the journey behind the bottle.

Receiving praise from one of the wine world's most respected critics is a milestone we're incredibly proud of.

Greg Sherwood MW recently reviewed our Klipdans Colombar 2025, describing it as "another exciting new young gun producer" and awarding the wine an impressive 93+ points. He praised its purity, freshness and beautiful expression of the Breedekloof terroir.

As a young wine brand, this recognition is both humbling and encouraging. It's a testament to our passion for crafting authentic wines that reflect the heritage vineyards we want to tell stories about.

When we released our Klipdans Colombar, we hoped it would find its way into the hands of those who appreciate wines with a true sense of place.

We’re deeply grateful for the support you’ve shown our first release❤️
