Sweet William banana suckers planted a month ago showing great progress.Next up is mulching all the fruit trees due to high temperatures and no rain these few days. Mulching is the practice of covering soil with organic (straw, compost) or inorganic (plastic film) materials to boost crop yields by retaining soil moisture, suppressing weeds, and regulating soil temperature. It enhances soil health, reduces erosion, protects roots from extreme temperatures, and decreases the need for chemical fertilizers and irrigation.

Contributing to national food security is the goal and not competition. GRZ should look into the exorbitant fertilizer prices in order to encourage more citizens to grow the staple food. Zambia has the capacity to produce over 10 million metric tonnes of maize of which we only need 3.5 million metric tonnes for industrial, human and animal consumption yearly. The excess can be exported to neighbouring countries for revenue collection to boost the economy.
