International Pinot Noir Day snuck up on us, so we're celebrating a little late.

Pinot Noir is famously fussy to grow, but when it's done right, it rewards you with something light, silky and full of character.

At Flame Tree we carry some very different expressions of it, from granite soils in the Hemel-en-Aarde and rare limestone by the coast, to the only 100% bush vine estate in the Cape. Swipe through to meet some of them.

Leopard's Leap Culinaria Pinot Noir - made for the table

Sourced from cool sites in Elgin and the Hemel-en-Aarde, this Pinot Noir was built with food in mind, as part of Leopard's Leap's Culinaria range. Cranberry, raspberry and cherry on the nose, supple tannins, and a long, easy finish that pairs with everything from chicken and duck to mushroom risotto, and creamy pastas.

Elegant, versatile, and made to sit alongside a great menu.

Hoopenburg Pinot Noir – a Cape estate with 100% bush vines.

Hoopenburg, in Stellenbosch, is the one of the very few Cape wine farm where every grape comes from low-yielding bush vines. The Pinot Noir grapes are hand-tended, fermented gently on the skins, then rested in French oak for a year. The result is fragrant and earthy, with violet, dark cherry and truffle notes.

100% bush vine fruit. A rarity in the Cape.

Baleia Pinot Noir - wines born from limestone

Baleia's vineyards sit near St Sebastian Bay, South Africa's natural whale nursery, on rare limestone soil found almost nowhere else in the Cape. That terroir shows up as a chunky, structured Pinot with ripe strawberry, cherry and a hint of Turkish delight, plus a distinctive mineral edge.

Rare limestone terroir. A Pinot Noir with real minerality and structure.

Whalehaven Granite Rock Pinot Noir - from the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley

Grown in the cool, ocean-cooled Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, on granite soils that give this wine its name. Expect deep violet and forest floor on the nose, blackberry and ripe plum on the palate, and tannins silky enough to age gracefully.

Cool climate. Granite soil. Built to age.

Whole Berry Cabernet Sauvignon is another very special wine from the Springfield Estate. Listen as the winemaker, Beth Bruwer, gives a more in depth look at this classic, in their underground cellar.

Whole Berry Cabernet Sauvignon brings rich, upfront red fruit, subtle spice, and beautifully integrated tannins to the glass.

A must on any good wine list!

If you’ve tasted Life From Stone from Springfield Estates before you will know that it has a very distinct taste.

We were fortunate to have one of the winemakers visit us in Zambia recently and she took the time to explain, among other things, why one of our favourite Sauvignon Blancs is just a little bit different on the palate.

Enjoy some insights into Life From Stone.

Leopard’s Leap brings wine lovers a delightful alternative for adding quality to life for those that prefer something versatile, health-conscious, and delicious.

The Natura Red and White are created through a gentle wine-making process, before being de-alcoholised via a spinning cone. This process is carried out under vacuum and at low temperatures, ensuring that the wine retains it’s unique appeal.

Natura Red is made from a blend of Pinotage and Shiraz grapes. Red berries and sweet spice follow through for a smooth mouth feel and lingering after taste.

Natura White is crisp and refreshing with tropical fruit flavours; a lovely blend of Chenin Blanc and Muscat grapes.

With less than 0.5% alcohol by volume, and low in calories, Natura is ideal for a responsible, everyday quality lifestyle.
