Most of our parents taught us how to pass exams, speak English, chase jobs, and dress well…
but they never taught us how to build a home.
They told us to get degrees—not discipline.
They told us to find money—not manners.
They told us to succeed—but not how to sustain peace in a family.
And now here we are —
a generation full of professionals but empty of principles.
We can manage projects, but not emotions.
We can run businesses, but not marriages.
We know how to sign contracts but not how to say “I’m sorry.”
Many of us grew up in homes that were loud, tense, and loveless.
Mum shouted. Dad withdrew.
And the lesson we learned?
That love is pain and peace is boring.
So we repeat the same patterns —
we talk to our partners the way our parents talked to each other,
we give up when things get hard,
and we keep blaming “love” for what was really a lack of example.
Parents — this is your wake-up call.
You cannot outsource parenting to teachers, house helps, or YouTube.
Mentor your children on life, not just livelihood.
Show them what partnership looks like.
Let them see forgiveness, communication, and respect — not constant shouting and silent treatments.
Because your child is watching.
And one day, they’ll treat their spouse the same way you treated yours.
We can’t keep building broken homes and calling it culture.
Teach the next generation how to build homes — not houses. 🏡
