CHIEF MWAMBA OF THE MAMBWE SPEAKING PEOPLE DIES

Mbala District has been thrown into mourning following the death of His Royal Highness Chief Mwamba of the Mambwe speaking people.

Sub Chief Kowa of the Mambwe speaking people confirmed the development to Luswepo Radio, stating that Chief Mwamba had been unwell for some time before his passing.

The traditional leader died on Thursday, 14th May 2026, at Mbala General Hospital.

Sub Chief Kowa said funeral details will be communicated later, adding that the funeral gathering is currently being held at the Chief’s Palace in Mwamba Village in Mbala District.

Meanwhile, Mbala Area Member of Parliament Njavwa Simutowe has also confirmed the death through a Facebook post.

In his message, Hon. Simutowe described the death of Chief Mwamba as a great loss to the people of Mbala and the Mambwe community.

He said the traditional leader will be remembered for his selfless and continuous efforts towards improving the welfare and development of the Mambwe people.

Further funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the royal establishment and family.
