'Buffalo Wings '
The Origin at Anchor Bar
The dish was created in 1964 at the Anchor Bar, a family-owned restaurant in Buffalo, owned by Teressa and Frank Bellissimo.
There are a few variations of the story, but the most popular version is that one night, their son, Dominic, showed up with a group of friends late at night looking for a snack. Teressa needed to make something quick. She took chicken wings (which were traditionally considered a cheap, undesirable cut of meat used only for stock or soup), deep-fried them, and tossed them in a cayenne pepper sauce (made from Frank’s RedHot) to add spice.
Why "Buffalo"?
Because the wings were invented in Buffalo, they were initially called "Buffalo-style chicken wings." As the dish exploded in popularity across the United States in the 1970s and 1980s, the name was shortened to simply "buffalo wings."
