Litter management is one of the most important yet overlooked aspects of poultry farming. Clean, dry litter keeps your birds healthy, comfortable and growing at the right pace. When litter is left wet, compacted or dirty for too long, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, ammonia and parasites. This leads to poor air quality, footpad burns, breast blisters, respiratory problems and increased disease pressure.

Bad litter could be the silent reason your birds are growing slowly. Wet or caked litter causes stress, reduces feed intake and forces birds to use energy fighting infections instead of converting feed into growth. In such conditions, even good feed and vaccines will not give you the results you expect.

How often should litter be changed?
โข Daily: Remove wet patches around drinkers and feeders.
โข Weekly: Stir and turn the litter to keep it dry and loose.
โข After each batch: Completely remove and replace all litter before introducing new birds.
โข Immediately: Replace litter if ammonia smell is strong or litter becomes excessively wet.

Remember, good litter management is good profit management. Dry, clean litter means healthier birds, better growth rates, improved feed efficiency and higher returns. Never underestimate the power of clean litter in your poultry house.
