Marenje Indigenous Beef

Marenje Indigenous Beef Mashona & Tuli Cattle — Zimbabwe's unique animal genetic heritage, with a place in the future. Crossing these two breeds makes them all-the-hardier.

Capitalizing on the Adaptive Traits in Indigenous Beef Cattle Breeds. The ultimate breeding objectives for Marenje are as follows:

To maintain a breeding herd of polled, slick cattle of appropriate genetics for the ever-drying conditions and recurrent droughts of Zimbabwe, under aggravated conditions (herding in day and kraaling at night) where selection is applied to promote high fertility and s

urvival in a low input system while working closely with nature through regenerative agriculture. We have about 40 cattle on our farm, the nucleus of which is a small herd of Mashona pedigree cows, we then use our pedigree Tuli bull 18-8334ZT, known on the farm as “Shiva Mthuli”, to produce our own “Tulima” cross calves. Tuli and Mashona breeds are compatible in body type and conformation, which, along with potentially substantial hybrid vigor, translates into remarkably productive and efficient cows and calves that are also uniform.
