Tilapia and Catfish can be successfully reared in a tarpaulin pond, provided the pond is properly set up and managed.

The tarpaulin itself is not the problem—the key is proper management of the pond and water.

However, when stocking tilapia in a tarpaulin pond, it is advisable to use sex-reversed (all-male) tilapia fingerlings. This helps prevent uncontrolled breeding, which can lead to overcrowding and stunted growth.

Tarpaulin ponds can work very well for tilapia farming, but the pond material alone doesn't determine success. Water management, stocking density, feed and fingerling quality are much more important.

Feed efficiency is influenced by feed quality, feeding rate, fish size, water quality, stocking density, feeding frequency, temperature, and fish health.

The question should be “How can I get more fish growth from every kilogram of feed I buy?”

That shift in thinking can help reduce waste, improve growth, and ultimately protect your profit.

In fish farming, the goal is not simply to feed less—it is to make every kilogram of feed count.

For those that were inquisitive and wanted to know whether the mommy fish won't accidentally swallow some of her eggs or babies here's your answer!

If the mother becomes severely stressed,frightened or malnourished,her protective instincts can shut down.Known scientifically as Filial Cannibalism.
She may intentionally swallow some or all of her brood.

Fasting for 2 or 3 weeks takes a massive toll on her body.If she senses the environment conditions are poor( e.g, poor water quality,heavy predator presence or lack of oxygen)swallowing her fry allows her to recycle ♻️ those nutrients,survive and breed again later when conditions improve.

Young or first time female tilapia are much more prone to panicking and swallowing their entire first batch of eggs or fry when startled.

So yeah,

Even after hatching the tiny fry swim out to feed and dart right back into their mommy's mouth at the first sign of danger.During this entire incubation period,which lasts for 1 to 2 weeks,

The female can hold dozens to hundreds of eggs or young fry inside her oral cavity.

The mother eats almost nothing!
Thats why we say males grow faster than females.
