What a season—more than successful kidding is underway, the results are speaking for themselves! 🔥🐐

The results of our synchronised breeding programme are speaking for themselves.

And then there is me—I know the mother of every kid here and exactly which kid belongs to each doe. That connection with the herd makes farming truly special.

Watching careful planning, good genetics and hard work produce these results is something else. Farming is not just a business; it is a passion! ❤️

We were keeping a close eye on this doe to ensure she delivers safely. Since she was bred to Nitro, there is a possibility of a large kid, so we must be ready to assist if necessary.

After delivery, our priority is to make sure the kid receives sufficient colostrum within its first few hours. Those first moments are critical for building immunity and improving its chances of survival.

This is the unseen work behind successful breeding—good genetics must always be supported by proper management, patience, and commitment.

It was a great pleasure visiting Mr Christoff, where I had the opportunity to meet Roman—a remarkable, record-breaking buck that reached the R300,000 mark during his lifetime.

Mr Christoff is the breeder from whom we acquired the does we currently have at Habstone Kalahari Red . Even more impressively, one of those does went on to win the Champion Doe title at the show.

He took me on an informative farm tour, showing me his animals and explaining the management programmes he follows, how the goats were raised, and how best to manage the valuable genetics now in our hands.

The visit was far more educational than I expected. I returned home with valuable knowledge, a deeper understanding of our animals, and even greater confidence in the genetics we acquired.

Thank you, Buffelspruit Stoetery , for generously sharing your time, experience, and knowledge with me. Good genetics become even more valuable when supported by proper knowledge and management.

In farming We don’t win every day. Some losses are beyond our control,some are because we noticed it too late and sometimes we may not even understand what went wrong.

Today, I lost this beautiful little kid. The warning signs came too late for us to act. I suspect the cold morning weather affected it, although the others are managing very well.

This is one of the painful realities of livestock farming. If you are also facing losses, I encourage you not to give up. Learn from every experience, correct what you can, and try again tomorrow. We keep improving for a better tomorrow. 🐐💔

Gathering valuable nuggets from the elders…📝🐐

One important lesson the elder shared was about selection. He said, “Don’t just breed—make sure you select.”

Breeding without proper selection will not improve your herd. We often focus only on the males, yet strong, carefully selected females can produce an even better breeding male. The quality of the mother line is just as important as the sire.

Every conversation with the elders is an opportunity to learn and improve.

Apologies for the poor sound quality—the lesson was too valuable not to share.
