Growing tomatoes in open fields at this time of year comes with real risks;

β€’ Fungal and bacterial diseases increase due to high moisture

β€’ Fruit cracking and rot from excessive rainfall

β€’ Pest pressure rises as conditions favour rapid multiplication

β€’ Quality and yield losses if field management is not timely

At Mt. Pleasant Farm, we manage these risks through;

β€’ Proper field drainage

β€’ Timely scouting and disease control

β€’ Careful variety selection

β€’ Good agronomic practices

Open-field tomatoes in the rainy season are possible but they require experience, vigilance, and good management. High disease pressure, fruit cracking, rot & pest outbreaks are real risks. Good drainage, scouting and management often make the difference. Agribusiness Media

This season we increased in-row spacing on 1.2 ha of watermelons. This is why spacing matters πŸ‘‡

Tighter rows often mean competition for light, water and nutrients. By widening our spacing, each plant gets enough room to spread, boosting fruit size and quality without increasing input costs. The adjustment covers 1.2 hectares and we're already seeing healthier vines and early signs of uniform, bigger melons πŸ‰. Farming is all about learning, testing and improving, one row at a time!

We increased in-row spacing on 1.2 ha of watermelons (Fahari variety from Syngenta). More room = better airflow, stronger vines & bigger fruits πŸ’ͺπŸ‰. Practical tweaks, real field results. That’s how we grow at . πŸŽ₯πŸ‘‡
