🌱The period between harvest and the next planting season is an opportunity to prepare, improve and plan ahead.

In our latest infographic, we've highlighted five practical areas farmers can focus on during the off-season to help set the foundation for a productive season ahead.

Preparation may not always be visible but it is often what makes the biggest difference when the rains arrive.

What other off-season activities do you prioritise on your farm? Agribusiness Media

Good yields begin long before planting.

At Mt. Pleasant Farm, soil testing forms an important part of our decision-making process. Understanding nutrient levels, soil conditions and field requirements helps us make more informed choices before the season begins.

This field is currently undergoing preparation, guided by soil analysis and careful planning.

Every crop is different and every field is different.

The goal is not simply to apply fertiliser. The goal is to understand what the soil needs and make decisions based on evidence rather than assumptions.

Some of the most important work on a farm happens long before produce reaches the market.

Harvesting.
Sorting.
Loading.
Transport.
Timing.

Every stage matters.

At Mt. Pleasant Farm, consistency and attention to detail remain part of the process every single day. Small operational decisions often make the biggest difference in quality, efficiency and reliability.

Some of the most important lessons we continue to learn at Mt. Pleasant Farm are about consistency. In farming, results are rarely instant.

Healthy crops are not built in one day and strong harvests are not created overnight. Growth takes patience, observation and continuous adjustment.

Every decision matters;
• how the soil is prepared
• spacing between crops
• irrigation timing
• pest management
• monitoring plant development

Small improvements made consistently over time often produce the biggest long-term results and that is one of the reasons we believe farming is more than just planting and harvesting. It is more about systems, discipline and learning to adapt with every season.

At Mt. Pleasant Farm, we continue working towards smarter and more sustainable farming practices while focusing on quality, efficiency and continuous improvement.

The learning never stops and neither does the work behind every harvest. Agribusiness Media

Growing tomatoes in open fields at this time of year comes with real risks;

• Fungal and bacterial diseases increase due to high moisture

• Fruit cracking and rot from excessive rainfall

• Pest pressure rises as conditions favour rapid multiplication

• Quality and yield losses if field management is not timely

At Mt. Pleasant Farm, we manage these risks through;

• Proper field drainage

• Timely scouting and disease control

• Careful variety selection

• Good agronomic practices

Open-field tomatoes in the rainy season are possible but they require experience, vigilance, and good management. High disease pressure, fruit cracking, rot & pest outbreaks are real risks. Good drainage, scouting and management often make the difference. Agribusiness Media
