Sore hocks (pododermatitis) these are painful, inflamed sores on the bottom of a rabbit's feet, often starting as fur loss and progressing to redness, scabs, bleeding, or infection due to constant pressure on hard surfaces such as rough base in the rabbit cages.If left untreated these can be fatal due to the spread of infection eventually leading to death.
Some of the causes we have identified based on our experience include:

1.Unsuitable Flooring: Hard, wire, or slick surfaces (plastic/metal cages) that don't cushion feet.This is the most common one for us.

2.Pressure/Weight: Heavy rabbits or those with long nails that shift weight to the heels.

3.Poor Hygiene: Damp bedding allows bacteria to break down skin.

4.Immobility: Reduced toe use increases hock pressure.
