DO YOU TRULY LOVE THE HOLY SPIRIT?
Scriptural References: John 14:16–17; Ephesians 4:30; John 14:15 (KJV)
Introduction
The Holy Spirit is not merely a power we call upon when we need help. He is a divine Person who lives within us, desires fellowship with us, and longs for a genuine relationship with us.
Yet, sometimes, we remember Him only when we are in trouble. We can go from morning until night without acknowledging His presence, speaking with Him, or seeking His fellowship. But the moment a challenge arises, we suddenly run to Him for assistance.
Do we truly love the Holy Spirit, or do we only love what He can do for us?
1. The Holy Spirit Desires Fellowship, Not Just Our Requests
Jesus said:
> John 14:16–17 (KJV)
"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth..."
The Holy Spirit was given to us not merely to solve our problems but to walk with us every day.
Imagine having someone who lives with you, loves you, and is always ready to help, yet you only speak to that person when you need something.
How would that relationship feel?
Let us not reduce the Holy Spirit to an emergency contact. Talk to Him when things are going well. Seek His guidance when there is no crisis. Make room for His presence in your everyday life.
2. We Can Grieve the Holy Spirit
Ephesians 4:30 (KJV) says:
> "And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption."
This scripture reminds us that the Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force. He can be grieved by our attitudes, disobedience, and the way we treat His presence.
We may sometimes take His patience for granted, assuming that because He continues to help us, our relationship with Him is healthy.
But His faithfulness should not become an excuse for our carelessness.
God's love is not permission to neglect Him. It is an invitation to love Him in return.
3. Love Must Be Demonstrated Through Obedience
Jesus said:
> John 14:15 (KJV)
"If ye love me, keep my commandments."
True love for the Lord is not demonstrated only by how passionately we pray when we need a miracle. It is revealed through our obedience, our devotion, and our willingness to fellowship with Him even when we have nothing to ask for.
The Holy Spirit faithfully helps us, but our response should be sincere love, not a relationship built entirely around our needs.
Powerful Thought: The Holy Spirit should not be the Person we remember only when life becomes difficult, but the One we cherish even when everything is going well.
Conclusion
Today, let us examine our hearts.
Do we seek the Holy Spirit because we love Him, or because we need something from Him?
Do we spend time in His presence when there is no problem to solve?
Do we obey His voice, or do we only call upon Him when we want His intervention?
The Holy Spirit is our Comforter, Helper, and constant companion. Let us honour His presence and cultivate a sincere, daily relationship with Him.
Do you truly love the Lord, or do you only love what He can do for you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have remembered Your Holy Spirit only when I needed help. Forgive me for neglecting His presence and taking His faithfulness for granted. Give me a sincere heart that desires fellowship with You, even when I have nothing to ask for. Holy Spirit, teach me to love You, honour Your presence, obey Your voice, and walk with You daily. Let my relationship with You be genuine and not merely driven by my needs. In Jesus' name, Amen.
