Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux is important because it is the legendary second wine of a First Growth Bordeaux estate, giving wine lovers a taste of top-tier quality with earlier drinkability.
Grapes that do not meet the strict standards for the main Grand Vin are used here instead. This keeps the main wine elite while using younger vines for this bottle.

Selection for a second wine at the estate goes back to the 17th century, with The Wine Cellar Insider pointing out that “1906 marked the official debut of ‘Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux’.” Production was revived in 1977 after a long break.
