More Harvest Doesn’t Always Mean More Money:
we've met farmers who proudly tell me:
“This season I harvested 20 tons!”
It sounds impressive. But my first question is always:
👉 “Did you actually make money?”
most people don’t like to admit:
You can fill your trucks with produce and still end up broke.
Why?
If your costs are higher than your sales, you’re losing.
If you sell at the wrong time, prices crash and profits vanish.
If your harvest spoils or middlemen undercut you, you worked hard for nothing.
I’ve seen it happen:
👨🏾🌾 Farmer A harvested 15 tons of tomatoes, but during peak season when everyone else harvested too. Prices dropped. He barely broke even.
👩🏾🌾 Farmer B harvested only 8 tons, but timed the off-season when supply was low. He sold at triple the price and made more profit with less produce.
The lesson? Farming is not about how much you grow — it’s about how much you keep.
✅ Control your production costs.
✅ Understand market timing.
✅ Reduce waste and post-harvest losses.
✅ Package and brand to stand out.
Big yields don’t make rich farmers.
Smart strategy does.
