Muslims have had 7 powerful business models for over 1,400 years. Most people were never taught this.

Allah didn't only teach us how to worship. He also taught us principles of earning and building wealth in a halal way.

1. Mudarabah (مُضَارَبَة) - Investor + Operator

One person brings capital. Another brings expertise. Profits are shared according to agreement. Khadijah R.A. partnered with Prophet ﷺ through this model.

→ Similar to silent partnerships and investor-backed ventures today.

2. Musharakah (مُشَارَكَة) - Joint Venture

Both parties contribute capital and effort. Profits are shared and losses are borne according to participation.

→ Similar to co-founded businesses and startup partnerships today.

3. Ijarah (إِجَارَة) - Service Model

Earn by providing your time, skill, or expertise. Musa A.S. worked for Shu'ayb A.S. as mentioned in Al-Qasas 28:27.

→ Similar to freelancing, consulting, and service-based businesses today.

4. Salam (سَلَم) - Pre-Order Model

Payment is received in advance while delivery takes place later. This was widely used by Muslim farmers who sold future harvests.

→ Similar to pre-selling courses, digital products, and launches today.

5. Istisna (اِسْتِصْنَاع) - Custom Order Model

A customer commissions a specific product or service to be created according to their requirements.

→ Similar to done-for-you services, agency work, and custom projects today.

6. Waqf (وَقْف) - Legacy Model

Assets are dedicated for continuous public benefit and reward. Fatima Al-Fihri established the world's oldest existing university through a Waqf in 859 AD.

→ Similar to community funds, educational endowments, and charitable foundations today.

7. Hisbah (حِسْبَة) - Ethical Market System

This framework ensures honesty, fairness, and accountability in the marketplace. Umar R.A. personally supervised markets to maintain justice.

→ Without this, none of the models above can truly have barakah.
