🍷 The WineTech Innovation Summit kicked off at Sevan Startup Summit, uniting local and global experts to explore how tech, tradition, and sustainability can shape Armenia’s bold future as the world’s oldest newest wine country.

🍷 The WineTech Innovation Summit Has Officially Begun!

🎙Welcoming speeches by national and international experts outlined why modernization is not a luxury but a necessity. We had the honor of hearing from Zaruhi Muradyan, Khachatur Julhakyan, Jochen Heussner, Stefan Iamandi, Darko Jaksic, Shushanik Asmaryan, Ruben Samaryan, and many more. Their shared expertise covered a wide range of topics — from digital innovation and branding to the protection of geographical indications, sustainable practices, and the future of Armenian wine in a global context.

Two panel discussions deepened the dialogue: one on the application of digital tools and platforms for advisory services, farm monitoring, and supply chain management in the agrifood sector, and another on digital tools for wine tourism development.

The event emphasized that wine is far more than a drink — it’s a bottled story, a cultural ambassador, and a strategic driver for Armenia’s economic development. From the ancient Areni cave to modern vineyards and smart technologies, Armenia stands proudly as the oldest newest wine country — carrying centuries of legacy, now ready to shape a bold, sustainable, and tech-driven future.

Let's give big applause to Shushanik Asmaryan🍷🤩

Dr. Shushanik was born in 1978 and received her education at the Yerevan State University, Department of Geography. She defended her PhD thesis in Geography in 2008. Since 2009, she has been leading the Department of GIS and Remote Sensing Technologies at CENS, and since 2020, she has served as Deputy Director of CENS.
She is also deeply involved in Spatial Data Infrastructures, including distributed GIS and Earth Observation Data Cube infrastructures.

Dr. Asmaryan has led and participated in numerous national and international research projects, including EU FP7 EcoArm2ERA, SNF Swiss-Armenian ARPEGEO, World Bank Carmac, H2020 Connecting Nature, SERI Swiss-Armenian ADC4SD, US DTRA Atlas, Erasmus+ MENVIPRO, and SEVAMOD2, among others.

She serves as the corresponding person for the Armenian delegation to the Group on Earth Observations (GEO). Since 2010, Dr. Asmaryan has been a lecturer in the “Environmental Protection and Nature Management” educational program at the International Scientific and Educational Center of NAS RA. She is the author or co-author of more than 90 research publications.

Lusine was appointed Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia on October 31, 2024, following a decision by the Prime Minister. Prior to this role, she served as a City Council Member and Head of Government and Public Affairs. With over a decade of experience, Lusine has contributed to the State Revenue Committee of Armenia and Digitain Group of Companies, where she coordinated major projects.

Lusine holds a Master’s in Public Finance Management, an Executive Program for Business Managers certification, and a Bachelor’s in Engineering.

With a deep passion for Armenia and extensive expertise in both government and business, she is committed to elevating the country’s tourism sector globally. Lusine aims to showcase Armenia’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and unique attractions - positioning it as a premier destination.

As Chairperson, she is focused on strengthening the tourism industry, fostering sustainable growth, and supporting local communities. Lusine is also dedicated to advancing women’s inclusion in business and government and has authored entrepreneurship training courses.

Let's give a big round of applause to Zaruhi Muradyan🍷🤩

Zaruhi Muradyan, PhD, is the Executive Director of the Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia, where she directs the country’s strategic initiatives to elevate Armenian wine on the global stage. She played a key role in shaping national wine policy and fostering the sector’s sustainable growth.

She was the founding director of the EVN Wine Academy, where she led numerous programs that bridge scientific research, academic training, and industry practice. As an Associate Professor at the Armenian National Agrarian University, she holds a PhD in Food Processing and Plant Production Technology from ANAU and has authored over 17 studies and 3 books in viticulture, enology, and food processing technologies.

Zaruhi is the first female winemaker in Armenia to establish her own production, crafting distinctive wines from indigenous grape varieties through methods rooted in scientific innovation and tradition. She also serves as an international jury member at prestigious wine competitions, bringing Armenian excellence to the world stage.

Let's give big applause to Stefan Iamandii🍷🤩

Stefan has served as the Director of the National Office of Vine and Wine (Wine of Moldova) since 2023, bringing over 15 years of experience in Moldova’s wine sector.

He spearheaded the implementation of the country’s first Automated Information System for the Vine and Wine Register, managed key development projects, and represented Moldova in international collaborations.

A certified wine tasting expert, Stefan is also the Vice-President of the Expert Group on Spirituous Beverages of Vitivinicultural Origin (BOISPI) within the OIV, and a dedicated advocate for the growth of the Moldovan wine industry.

Let’s give a warm welcome to Darko Jakšić🍷🤩

Prof. Dr. Darko Jakšić is a renowned expert in viticulture, oenology, and wine spirits production, with over two decades of experience in the field. He holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnical Sciences, specializing in viticulture and winemaking, and currently serves at the Faculty of Biofarming in Bačka Topola, Serbia.

Dr. Jakšić has gained international training in countries such as the USA, Japan, Italy, Spain, and Germany. Throughout his career, he has held key positions in government bodies and research institutions — including the Serbian Ministry of Agriculture and the Institute of Agricultural Economics in Belgrade.

His research focuses on terroir studies, geographical indications, local grapevine varieties, and clonal selections. He has led and contributed to major viticulture projects across Southeast Europe, Moldova, Ukraine, Italy, Armenia, and more — playing a pivotal role in aligning regional wine sectors with EU standards.
Dr. Jakšić’s achievements have been recognized with honors such as the "Wine Person" award (VinoFino, 2015) and "Le Prix - 2016 en Monographies" from the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV).
