Bodega Catena Zapata is a historic family winery, currently managed by third and fourth generation vintners Nicolás and his daughter Laura Catena. Nicolás Catena Zapata is known as the man who revolutionized Argentine wine in the 1980’s, by focusing primarily on quality, and spearheading the re-entrance of Malbec – the French varietal that had been almost completely forgotten by the rest of the wo

rld – into the world of wine. The iconic family winery, a rock-clad pyramid nestled in the foothills of the Andes mountains, produces wine from five estate vineyards. Special lots within the family’s high altitude vineyards – Angélica, La Pirámide, Domingo, Adrianna and Angélica Sur – are the essence of the Catena Zapata wines.

I particularly want to thank the whole Catena team in Argentina. Their dedication is unparalleled. Catena Zapata fue nombrada la marca de vinos más admirada del mundo por International, por segundo año consecutivo y por tercera vez en los últimos 7 años. Gracias al panel independiente de expertos que nuevamente nos seleccionó para el primer puesto por “la calidad y consistencia de nuestros vinos, relación precio-calidad, fortaleza de la marca, prácticas de sustentabilidad y responsabilidad social y corporativa”.

In Mendoza, the glaciers of the Andes provide essential meltwater for our vineyards. However, due to climate change, glaciers have been rapidly shrinking. This loss has a direct impact on water availability for agriculture. At Catena Zapata, every drop is worth preserving, and we know that efficient water management is key for the longterm sustainability of our vineyards.

En Mendoza, los glaciares de los Andes proporcionan agua de deshielo esencial para nuestros viñedos. Sin embargo, debido al cambio climático, los glaciares se han estado reduciendo rápidamente. Esta pérdida tiene un impacto directo en la disponibilidad de agua para la agricultura. En Catena Zapata, se valora cada gota de agua, y sabemos que una gestión eficiente de este recurso es clave para la sostenibilidad a largo plazo de nuestros viñedos.

Nicolás Catena “Supersonic Vineyard” – This 20-hectare foundational vineyard is a family project focused on obtaining virus-free materials to create more sustainable vineyards. We preserve the genetic diversity of our vines for the future with massale selections, which are more resilient to climate change, of Malbec, Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Criollas, and Chardonnay, among others. This vineyard ensures the conservation of each genetic line, storing unique clones and selections, all protected from diseases and viruses.

Nicolás Catena “Vivero Supersónico” – Este viñedo fundacional de 20 hectáreas es un proyecto familiar enfocado en obtener material vegetal libre de virus para crear viñedos más sustentables. Preservamos la diversidad genética de nuestras vides para el futuro con selecciones massales, que son más resilientes frente al cambio climático, de Malbec, Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Criollas y Chardonnay, entre otras. Este viñedo garantiza la conservación de cada línea genética, almacenando clones y selecciones únicas, libres de enfermedades y virus.
