We are a small trust dedicated to the protection of endangered species and defending the habitats that are essential to their survival. Our trust purchased this former cattle ranch in 2010 and have gradually restored it to its natural state thus encouraging the native flora and fauna to return. We have a research cabin, an incubating shed and are always ready to welcome biologists, ornithologists

and other researchers to come and visit. We hope to start on some reintroduction projects this year, and may try to reintroduce a Cracid which has been hunted to extinction in this part of the world. We have several endangered species including the Marsh Deer, Neotropical Otter, Maned Wolf, Strange-tailed Tyrant, several Sporophila species, Ochre-breasted Pipit and Greater Rhea.

Today marks a very important milestone for our reserve. Four Bare-faced Curassows (Crax fasciolata) have arrived with the Rewilding Argentina team. They are classed as Endangered in Argentina and Vulnerable in South America.

Back in 2014, we built two large corrals in preparation for this species, but despite our efforts, the project never fully progressed. We cared for an elderly male for four years, yet were unable to find a female to continue the work.

Now, after 12 years of waiting, we finally have these incredible birds at the reserve. They will spend the next 2–3 weeks acclimatising before being released into our woodlands. They are known as Muitu in Argentina due to their soft call.

During the past week we have been getting the nets out and instead of bats we are targeting birds. We are fortunate to have a licensed ringer from UK with us for 3 weeks and 2 others with great experience. Thanks to Daniel, Cynthia and Rowie, we have ringed over 20 different species so far. Pirpi, the second Giant Anteater released at the reserve is now wandering free, but like Tupac, our first released, he is staying close to the holding corral where the team place food for him that only an anteater can access. He is looking very healthy.

During one of our tours inside Reserva Don Luis, our guests had the opportunity to observe Giant anteater in its natural habitat. A respectful, silent, and unique encounter.

These experiences strengthen our connection with nature and reinforce the importance of conserving the environments that make these encounters possible.

We are very happy to receive another Giant Anteater. Again found as an orphan in Santiago del Estero, he was rehabilitated by the Rewilding Argentina team. Initially he weighed 1.4kg but now he weighs 45.8kg and is 1 year 4 months old. His name is Pirpi. Thank you to Masat for the photos.
