COLLETT TRUST FOR ENDANGERED SPECIES Welcome to Collett-trust for Endangered Species. If you would like to find out more about our trust please visit our website www.collett-trust.org

We are a small trust dedicated to the protection of endangered species and defending the habitats that are essential to their survival. Our trust purchased this former cattle ranch in 2010 and have gradually restored it to its natural state thus encouraging the native flora and fauna to return. We have a research cabin, an incubating shed and are always ready to welcome biologists, ornithologists

and other researchers to come and visit. We hope to start on some reintroduction projects this year, and may try to reintroduce a Cracid which has been hunted to extinction in this part of the world. We have several endangered species including the Marsh Deer, Neotropical Otter, Maned Wolf, Strange-tailed Tyrant, several Sporophila species, Ochre-breasted Pipit and Greater Rhea.

New bat species for Reserva Don Luis. A large bat has been seen hunting over some of the water bodies at the reserve (of which we have many at the moment). After analysing some acoustic recordings we were able to identify the bat as Noctilio albiventris. This is a new species for us and also a new family of bats for the reserve.
This is the smaller cousin of Noctilio leporinus, but it still weighs ~54g with a forearm of ~65mm

We were delighted to attend the soft release of 3 Ara chloropterus at our wildlife reserve. They will be kept in this large aviary for 7-10 days then will be released. They are monitored using radio collars & will be tracked daily by the team fron Rewilding Argentina. They emerged from their boxes after about 10 minutes & started feeding on the native fruit that was provided for them.

Tupac, our rewilded Giant Anteater, Oso Hormiguero, eating ants from one of our many anthills. Giant Anteaters use their powerful forearms and long sharp claws to tear away at the anthill, exposing the ants inside. They do not devour all of the ants, preferring to leave some for a later snack.
