Olives 🤝 wine. Grapes aren’t the only fruit that grow plentifully on the Azcuénaga Vineyard.
When we purchased the land in 2011, there were 791(!) olive trees already lining the borders of the vineyard. The trees were planted in 1998 to work in tandem with the grapevines. Olive trees 🌳serve as windbreaks that shield the delicate vines, draw predatory insects away without chemical intervention, strengthen the root systems, and enrich the surrounding soil via fallen leaves. In addition, olive harvest occur at the end of the season - soon after grape harvest - providing year-round work for our farmers. Win-win-win!
A few years back, we started to make our own olive oil (swipe for first bottle glamour shots), sharing the product with friends & family so they could include a part of FVP in their cooking & snacking. Our goal for 2027 is to finally bring some of this liquid gold to the USA. This rich, herbaceous, green and gold beauty is made from a blend of Arauco, Arbquina, and Frantoio olives.
