Every season asks something different of us. This year we faced extreme heat and drought. So last week, we sprayed chamomile tea, a biodynamic approach to support balance and even ripening. Today, we started harvest. One of the earliest starts we’ve ever had. Though we’d wish for fewer extremes, we’re still excited for this vintage and will keep you posted. 💌

A couple of weeks ago we’ve had our team summer get together before taking some time off and gathering strengths for our upcoming harvest. In shifts of course: Someone is always here for you, for packing and shipping, for the vineyards, the animals, the garden. This year, as any year really, we’re endlessly grateful to our whole team, to everyone who works alongside us day in and day out, with a hand in getting each bottle from vine to table. 🍇🍷This year’s conditions (heat, drought) have been extremely challenging, for humans, plants and animals. ☀️ We’re all back from vacation now and preparing for what is the earliest harvest we’ve ever had in August. We’ll keep you posted as harvest unfolds!

It’s always good to be back in Italy. 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 By now it feels a little like a second home. was hot, hectic and so much fun! ☀️ Such a great atmosphere, enthusiastic visitors and wonderful fellow winemakers left us buzzing. Thank you, grazie Michele Bontempi for the invitation and amazing organization!

This wasn‘t the plan at all. We thought the hen was gone, but then she appeared again with some new family members. 🐣 We could watch them fighting over cherries for hours and hours 🍒 (The cage is just for protection, they‘ll be outside soon enough)

Now that we are back in Gols, we want to take a moment to reflect on an incredible time in the US. Twelve days, seven restaurant / bottle shop events, and dozens of inspiring conversations across four states side by side with our incredible partners. ✨A massive thank you to all the people who made this trip so special, to the inspiring sommeliers, chefs, wine curators, and the passionate staff! Thank you for your trust, for bringing so much knowledge, passion and curiosity to the dinner tables. Despite all the changes, wine is still a very communal thing, and tomorrow looks like a better place with these people in the picture. Special thanks to Zev Rovine Selections for making this all happen.

Gernot went on his Sunday bike ride through Leithagebirge today. Take a look 👀
1: Chardonnay at Edelgraben — remarkably advanced for this time of year.
2: The view from Ried Spiegel in Winden, looking towards the Hackelsberg hills of Jois and Lake Neusiedl.
3: Edelgraben = ‚forest garden‘ — we use protective netting because deer simply can’t resist our young vines.
4: Re-grafting from Blaufränkisch to Pinot Blanc in Ried Goldberg, Breitenbrunn.
