Mandarin Oriental Vienna, tucked near Palais Coburg, the hotel itself already feels like a story years in the making, over a decade spent restoring and shaping the interiors into something deeply elegant without losing the soul of the original building. Spending two nights there felt less like checking into a hotel and more like being welcomed into a modern Viennese palace.

Lunch began with the octopus salad, and from the very first bite, you could tell the kitchen understood restraint and confidence. The octopus arrived beautifully crunchy, perfectly seasoned, while the salad around it was impossibly fresh, crisp greens, generous portions, textures that made every forkful satisfying. It tasted like summer had arrived early in Vienna.

Then came the white asparagus soup, delicate yet rich with flavor, celebrating Austria’s asparagus season in the most understated way. Warm, silky, comforting, the kind of dish that slows conversation for a moment because everyone at the table is too busy enjoying it.

The sole fish with green beans and edamame followed, light yet deeply satisfying, cooked with precision that never felt showy. Everything on the plate worked in harmony, allowing the ingredients to speak for themselves.

You've gotta leave room for their desserts which are outstanding. We choose 3 options. After all who can just choose one !

But what truly elevated the experience was the service, the kind Austria is famous for and which now feels increasingly rare. Attentive without intrusion, polished without stiffness. The staff seemed genuinely proud of what they were serving, and it showed in every interaction.

Even more surprising was how reasonably priced the lunch menu was for a hotel of this calibre, especially paired with Austrian wines served beautifully by the glass. Sitting there, sunlight filtering through the dining room, wine in hand, watching Vienna move quietly outside, it felt less like a meal and more like discovering a secret the city had been patiently waiting to share.
