It’s been a big week for our small operation. It’s not often you find yourself bottling and picking from the same vineyard on the same day. Definitely not planned, yet somehow, we made it work. But the real story isn’t the long hours, it’s the vineyard itself.

This moment marks a new beginning. The Adelaide Hills property that supplied fruit for our Forreston Syrah has changed hands, and the vines at the top of the ridge in Block 11 have now been pulled out. That meant finding a new site in the northern Hills with that same special character. Fortunately, I didn’t have to look far.

Just 2.5 km away, as the crow flies, sits Glenbrook. A vineyard that once inspired and guided my former grower, Chris. Here, Brad and his skilled team produce some of the highest‑quality fruit in the region. I’m grateful to once again mark out my two rows of Syrah.

Introducing the next chapter: 2023 Iggy Wines Glenbrook Adelaide Hills Syrah.

Stay tuned for the official release.

Prešeren Day 🍷

8th February is a National Day of Culture in Slovenia which marks the passing of Slovenian greatest poet France Preseren.

Classical romanticist wrote Zdravljica (A toast), an 8-stanza carmen figuratum (each stanza visually reminds of a glass) poem in 1844. The whole piece was translated by Janko Lavrin in 1954 and starts with:

‘The vintage, friends, is over,
And here sweet wine makes, once again,
Sad eyes and hearts recover,
Puts fire in every vein,
Drowns dull care
Everywhere
And summons hope out of despair.’

Its 7th stanza was chosen to be a Slovenian national anthem in March 1990, a few months before the Independence Day.

‘Let all people of all nations live
Who long and work for that bright day
When o’er earth’s habitations
No war, no strife shall hold its sway

Who long to see
That all men free
No more shall foes, but neighbours be!

Who long to see
That all men free
No more shall foes, but neighbours,
No more shall foes, but neighbours be!’

A true celebration of life, friendship, and wine. Rather than nationalism it glorifies peace, freedom, equality, and brotherly coexistence that resonates deeply with us and fits very well into what we do and how we live.

The only difference is there is still a few weeks before we can toast with the young vintage 2026 wine here in Australia. This aside, there has never been a better moment to raise a toast to peace and love, no matter how romantic or utopian it might seem.

Na zdravje / Cheers 🍷

A great honour to be invited by H.E. Mr Marko Ham and Ms Maja Kosem to the Slovenian Embassy in Canberra yesterday. A warm reception by all staff, filled with true and honest touch of hospitality, a much cherished trait engraved in our Slovenian heritage and culture.

As we approach the most festive part of the year for many, the purpose of this reception was also to mark the upcoming Independence and Unity day to commemorate the official proclamation of the Slovenian independence referendum on 26 December 1990 🇸🇮

As with all celebrations, tables were heaving under delicious traditional dishes coupled with all around good vibes, enhanced sense of unity and awareness of the roots, while respecting and embracing the great land we work and live on 🇦🇺

Bringing together the best of the both worlds, just like many other cultures that are building the Australian society nowadays.

After an impact one has two options. But there is only one option in grape-growing really. Keep on keeping on. Either to somehow try and salvage what is (still only potentially at this stage before flowering) left or/and to and semi-prepare vines for another try next year.

In addition, to control weeds in Rebula we are implementing one of the most primal tools on the planet-the good ol’ trusty hoe. Runs well on toast with peanut butter and jam, and some water here and there! 💪

We love our Springton, Eden Valley Syrah and it is great to hear Jancis Robinson does too!

''Jancis finds an Eden Valley Syrah that she thinks can convert anyone sceptical of Australian Shiraz (she’s not alone; Iggy has been shortlisted for Best New Winery in the 2025 Halliday Wine Companion).''

Iggy in UK! #🇬🇧

We are delighted to share that our entire range has recently been made available in the UK exclusively through Berry Bros. & Rudd. You can explore detailed information on our wines, tasting impressions from the BBR team, and reviews from respected UK wine-voices such as Jancis Robinson and Matthew Jukes directly on their website.

Berry Bros. & Rudd is Britain’s oldest wine merchant, founded in 1698. By contrast, Iggy Wines, established in 2019 by two recent immigrants to Australia, is only entering its fifth year of trading. To say we are chuffed to bits would be an understatement.

“Fear not the doors not opening when you knock, instead, imagine the possibilities when they do.”
