🌸🍐 SPRING SNAPSHOT 🍐🌸

Spring is a time of rejuvenation when we witness the growth of fruitlets (very young fruit), after the beauty of blossom has passed. These fruit will be picked in 3-6 months, once they reach full size.

We contribute to the rejuvenation through grafting which is putting new varieties of pear on the base of another variety of pear tree. Today, we're grafting Lemon Bergamot to Packham, as some Packham trees are getting older and less productive, while Lemon Bergs aren't so profitable. Grafting is a quicker process, with the new variety ready to be picked in around 2 years vs 3-5 years for pulling out old trees planting new ones.

See you tomorrow (Friday) or Tuesday for pears, apples, citrus, honey and jam.

(Pictured here is Block 9 pears in full bloom. Although we've needed today's rain, it's been helpful to have a few warmer, fine days for the bees to carry out the pollination process. This allows our trees to grow fruit that is good size and quality. )🐝

These sweet and juicy "Sumo" Mandarins are grown in Waikerie, in the Riverland. Dekopons are easy to peel as well. Available at our fruit sales for at least a few weeks, currently $5/kg.

We're currently trialling selling Australian grown Citrus sourced from the SA Produce Markets, to add variety to our fruit sales. If successful, we'll consider growing our own in future.

🍐 What's available?🍐
CITRUS: Dekapons, Tangelos, Mandarins and Oranges (Blood/Cara Cara/Navel)
APPLES: Pink Lady, Granny Smith, Fuji and Golden Delicious.
PEARS: Packham, Lemon Bergamot, Nashi, Abate Fetel, Beurre Bosc, Corella and Red Anjou.
Locally sourced honey, home-made jam and freeze dried fruit also available.
