🍄 WILD MUSHROOM WORKSHOPS 🍄

Step into the fascinating world of wild mushrooms with Wild Food Huntress and learn the skills needed to better understand what is growing around you.

These hands-on workshops cover edible and poisonous mushrooms commonly found in South Australia, including dangerous lookalikes such as the deadly Death Cap. Using real specimens and practical demonstrations, you’ll learn the key identification features that experienced foragers look for in the field.

Guests will also have the opportunity to sample a range of wild mushrooms while discussing flavour, seasonality and safe foraging practices.

Whether you are completely new to mushrooms or already obsessed with fungi, these workshops are designed to be informative, practical and genuinely eye-opening.

⚠️ Safety is a major focus throughout the workshop. Never rely on social media or apps alone when identifying wild mushrooms.

Check out these cool Death Cap Mushroom specimens showing the different life stages of one of the world’s deadliest mushrooms ☠️

From left to right:

• Egg stage – commonly confused with edible straw mushrooms
• Emerging stage – cap breaking through the outer veil
• Young mature stage – white gills and ring becoming visible
• Mature stage – elongated stem with the distinctive sac-like volva at the base

These are used during our workshops to help teach safe mushroom identification and show how dramatically mushrooms can change as they develop.

This year we have decided to set a time and date for the release of tickets. Every year there are people who seem to continue to miss out. After the rain over the weekend and into next week we will be in a position to advertise. Keep checking to set a reminder in your calendar. In the meantime here’s a gorgeous blusher I cooked up for samples.

When picking mushrooms it’s not always important to pick only prime specimens. Old manky boletes are great for drying and often taste better than fresh and perfect ones. In this case old saffrons were used to make jerky. Once cooked and dehydrated it’s impossible to tell they weren’t pristine.
