Morgan Simpson Wines

Morgan Simpson Wines Morgan Simpson Wines are makers of a selection of delicious and affordable Southern Australian Wine. Winemaker Richard Simpson (B.App.

Morgan Simpson is a small McLaren Vale wine producer located in the foothills of the South Mount Lofty Ranges. Science - Wine Science, CSU) selects small parcels of fruit from the families' Clos Robert vineyard (first planted by Robert Allen Simpson in 1972). The winemaking began with a trial vintage - 2 barriques of Cabernet Sauvignon - in 1997 (Silver medal and 2nd overall in the National Amate

ur Wine and Beer Show) followed by the start of a commercial operation in 1998 with our only wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon, winning a Gold medal at the McLaren Vale wine show. Since then we have won a few more medals and trophies and extended the range somewhat. The wine is hand made on site using traditional small scale winemaking equipment and methods (basket press, small open fermenters). We combine this with, as far as economically practicable, modern analytical techniques. We are currently crushing about 20 tonnes (Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Mataro, Semillon and Chardonnay). We have done consistently well in wine shows around Australia. Currently our wine is available through mail order and a number of retail outlets. We sometimes make wine with high alcohol levels.

By and large Labradors don’t much stress over Christmas. They leave the present buying to others and trust that the 2 – legged dogs will attend to the food as they usually do. They expect a Christmas day walk but, over the years, most have become used to the idea that there may not be a boxing day outing.

For the rest of us it is more complex.

There is lunch to organize, maybe dinner as well, coordinating equitable visits between the diverse family branches and, most importantly, presents.

It’s best to buy wine.

That wasn't easy......

Facebook is called Meta these days and they've changed things to make posting easier.

That's not all that's changed; Winestate Magazine now gives points as well as stars and half stars. In the recent McLaren Vale issue Morgan Simpson got a lot of points (and stars):

19 Chardonnay 92
15 Mataro 96
18 Cab Sav 98
19 Shiraz 91
17 Shiraz/Mataro 92
16 Reprieve 92

All told that is 561 points and quite a few stars. It was very gratifying to get every wine listed in the magazine, (and even easier than posting on the new Meta).

Winnie the Pooh shivers over the dying embers of the last of his Australian coal, he casts apprehensive glances at the shirtless man glowering at him from the darkened corner of the room. Sadly he wonders how it is that this disturbing Russian has become his only friend…..

Meanwhile, in sundrenched Australia we are eating smoked Barrossa ham and Beachport crayfish washed down with Karrawatta Pinot Grigio, which in in turn is washed down with (conventionally powered) V***e Clicquot.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...While Barney and Ben may want a pair of Hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots all the rest of us want a stiff drink and a good lie down. Here's hoping that you have a merry Christmas, a decent amount of figgy pudding, that your bob-tailed bay is well behaved and your troubles well out of sight, so that after lunch you can sleep in heavenly peace.

We have sold out of 2018 Shiraz. In normal times we would proceed in an orderly fashion on to selling the 2019.

But these are not normal times.

We will now move on to the 2017, this was, for us, a difficult vintage and the wine lacks our usual boofy body. On the other hand it has aged well, and we are little bit sorry we dropped the price to a derisory $15.

The 2019 Shiraz is still a few months off, so buying a box or two of the '17 to tide you over makes perfect sense.

With friends like the Americans who needs Chinese? This is the last post from Morgan Simpson until Facebook pays its bills. (Take that Zuckerberg).

212% !! If Australian wine wasn't the most highly taxed in the world before it certainly is now. Let's all roll up our sleeves; one bottle for ourselves and one for the country.

Woo Hoo! Here we go again! Hand plunging our new stockpile of Shiraz grapes.

Winestate Magazine has just awarded the Reprieve Shiraz 5 stars (equal top in category) in their McLaren Vale tasting. This is the second time they have given it 5 stars; does this make it a 10 star wine? I think it probably does.

"Lovely palate layered with blue and black fruits and coffee and chocolate notes and strong smooth tannins".

Says Winestate, and who could argue with that?

The Chardonnay was also equal top in its category with 4 stars, the Cab Sav got 4 stars too (maybe it came 2nd in its category?).
