A.R.Rhodes History
First Wool Grab Machine setup up in South Australia was in the A.R.Rhodes Woolstore in the 1974-75 season.
With Les Sugars Co-operation , the AWTA through Terry Dittmar & Bryn Williams assembled a Jetco Grabmachine in Store 27 at Bedford street Gillman.
Store 27 was one of the Old Wooden stores in the Corporation complex.
It was two doors down from the AWTA office.
Terry Dittmar & Bryn Williams ran AWTA in the early years , Terry starting in 1967 & Bryn in 1970( I hope this is correct) .
Core testing was in its infancy ( Hand coring for a fair few years).
Trials of grab sampling were done in the Rhodes store.
This was the forerunner to sale by sample using a representative sample and a core test result (micron , vegetable matter & yield).
Thank you Terry for passing on this story and your contribution to the Wool Industry.
