What a difference a year can make, for the first time in 5 years the winter block looks nice. 2021,23 and 25 we were just inundated with constant rain. Even our food safety auditor who comes late winter has commented over the last few years the crops don’t look as good as she use to remember. Hoping we are back into a normal sweeping cold front based winter weather systems and average rainfall 🧑‍🌾

Wrapping up this season on the summer-autumn block with harvesting down to the last two patches of cauliflowers. I wouldn’t call it a great summer, but is was a summer and while the 80mm of rain at the end of March did some damage, it wasn’t the catastrophic disaster of 2025. We even managed to get a green manure crop grown and ploughed in before last week’s rain. Really nice to see the ground living again after starting with basically compacted clay in October 🧑‍🌾

An experiment in crop rotation growing butternut pumpkins from seedlings to get ahead of the weeds so we don’t have to use herbicides. Planted very late due to the wet spring but happy to see some small pumpkins finally 🎃👨‍🌾

Had Tania’s friend Sue and her pre primary students from Bethel visit the farm again. Always rewarding to see Tania showing the next generation where fresh food is grown.
In two weeks they’ll head up to Woolies Chester Pass where Store Manager Oswin and Fruit&Veg Manager Brad will show them how produce arrives from growers and is put onto the supermarket shelves.
Thank you to Sue and the students for the amazing card! 🥬🥦🌽🫑🍅🥕👩🏼‍🌾

3 food miles paddock to plate
Sometimes you don't need a certificate to prove you're caring for the environment. The diversity of flora and fauna on our farm is a pretty good indicator, from frogs to ospreys, and our King Fishers having their second batch of chicks!
