The name Thorn-Clarke derives literally from the relationship of two long time Barossa families. Founders David and Cheryl Clarke (nee Thorn) work with their son Sam in this family orientated business. The Thorn-Clarke family has a long history in the Barossa – six generations of involvement in the regions world famous wine industry. Today the Clarke family is one of the Barossa Valleys largest gr

ape growers and winemakers with over 700 acres of vineyard spread across four sites in the Barossa and Eden Valley. Having grown grapes and sold the fruit to other wineries for a number of years the Thorn-Clarke name is relatively young as a winemaker with the release of the first wines in 2001.

This gorgeous new release has become a best-seller almost overnight! Dedicated to a very special and beloved woman in our family history, Mary Ann Randell.

You may have heard the story of Captain William Randell, who designed, commissioned and captained the first paddle steamer on the Murray River back in 1853. But what you might not know is that he named that paddle steamer PS Mary Ann, after his mother, who had been a driving force in his commitment to innovation and community enhancement.

Not a lot is known about the life of Mary Ann, as with many women on the periphery of history. But given her incredible positive influence on Captain Randell, we felt she deserved a wine all of her own.
