2022 saw a cool, slow vintage in the Grampians. Long ripening, excellent natural balance, and a structure that will only improve with time. Drink now or cellar, this is a w**e that rewards patience.

"You know you are in Grampians shiraz country with that potent, characteristic black pepper intensity taking hold of the senses. Gives them a proper shake, too, but it's in tandem with some gorgeous associated spices, Aussie bush notes, star anise, black plum and berries and smoky savouriness. Seamless, balanced, vibrant, fresh and with so much potential for further ageing."

Our w**emaker and co-founder Adam Louder loves to make w**e.

He has been involved in w**emaking since he was 15, cleaning and learning cellar work part time at Best's W**es - Great Western.

At 18, Trevor Mast asked him to work with him at Mount Langi Ghiran . This is where everything changed...from a job to fund his passion with cars to a new love.

42 vintages in 30 years. His dedication to learning led him to work in Margaret River, Bordeaux, France and Napa Valley, California in addition to his home region, the Grampians - often working two vintages in one year.

In every glass you can taste the Grampians terroir, with elegance and precision that are only possible because decades of dedication and global experience.

We're hosting our first SubRosa Supper Club, Wednesday 29 July at the Mess & Barracks, Ararat.

One w**e (our 2016 Malakoff Estate Shiraz), two dishes, and a table of ten. No tasting flight, no rushing.

An evening that celebrates food, w**e and conversation. SubRosa, from the Latin sub rosa, "under the rose", means a conversation held in confidence, among a few. Supper Club will be sub rosa.

From the Malakoff Estate, matured for 12 months in used French barriques. Well, well, it's like jumping into the surf thinking it's going to be very cold, only to find it's perfect. Coming to the end of the day's tasting, nebbiolo tannins can fill the mouth with fast-drying cement. This is a high quality w**e by any standards, complete with violets on the bouquet, sumptuous dark fruits and millimetre perfect tannins.
