It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Margaret Plunkett, the woman who lived on the orchard her whole life, and shaped Plunkett Orchards into what it is today.
Margaret took the helm of the orchard after the tragic and unexpected loss of her brother, and then her parents soon after. What followed was 50 years of steady, determined leadership, growing the business responsibly and sustainably alongside her husband Noel, whose innovative ideas paired perfectly with Margaret's financial discipline and acumen.
But Margaret was so much more than a businesswoman. She was a pillar of the Ardmona community, active in countless groups over the decades — from Young Farmers in the 1960s to a book club she was part of for 40+ years. Anyone who knew Margaret, through the orchard or otherwise, will remember her genuine interest in people, her warmth, and her open door for a chat over a cup of tea.
Margaret lived by the values passed down from her parents and grandparents: work hard, give back to your community, treat everyone with respect and equality, and be grateful for your opportunities. Those values are woven into everything Plunkett Orchards stands for, and we will carry her memory forward with us.
Margaret's Memorial Service will be held on Monday 24th August. Details here: https://www.merrittfuneralservices.com.au/general-4
Rest peacefully, Margaret. Thank you for everything.
