Angus Australia in conjunction with WA Angus & Rhodes Pastoral is bringing a practical, hands-on workshop to Western Australia this September, designed to help commercial cattle producers make more informed breeding and herd management decisions.

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 will be held at Rhodes Pastoral, Dinninup, on Friday 11 September, bringing together practical information on genetics, genomics, nutrition, female selection and structural assessment.

The workshop is aimed particularly at young and emerging commercial cattle producers, with both Angus Australia members and non-members welcome to attend.

Throughout the day, participants will hear from Angus Australia’s Brad Hine on genetics, genomics and navigating angus.tech, while Bridget Watkins, SW WA Regional Soil Coordinator, will discuss optimising nutrition for the breeding herd.

John Curtin, Cattle Manager at Rhodes Pastoral, will provide an insight into the Rhodes Pastoral beef operation, followed by an interactive panel discussion and Q&A session.

The afternoon will move into practical workshops, including an Angus HeiferSELECT session examining how genomic information can support commercial replacement heifer selection, followed by a structural assessment workshop with the WA Angus team.

The day provides an opportunity for producers to build their knowledge, ask questions, connect with other producers and explore practical tools that can support better breeding decisions within their own businesses.

Angus Australia members from across the seedstock and commercial seedstock sectors came together in Tamworth and Armidale during August for two practical Masterclass workshops covering a range of topics from genetics & genomics to setting your breeding objective and bull selection.

Held in Tamworth on 24 August and Armidale on 31 August, the interactive workshops provided participants with the opportunity to work directly with Angus Australia staff, build their knowledge and ask questions relevant to their own breeding enterprise.

The Masterclasses attracted a good mix of seedstock and commercial producers, creating valuable discussion around how Angus Australia’s tools and services can be applied across different production systems. The mix of seedstock and commercial producers attending generated valuable discussion between participants, bringing a range of questions and perspectives to the room.

Rather than simply presenting information, the sessions were structured to give participants practical experience using the resources available to them through Angus Australia to help develop skills to navigate and utilise the growing range of information accessible through Angus Australia.

Angus Australia’s Brad Hine led participants through the Masterclass program, covering key areas designed to help producers make better breeding decisions.

A practical member services session, presented by Georgia Daley from Angus Australia’s Member Services Team, also stepped participants through the new Angus ONLINE tools including a session on the recently launched DNA Direct service and using the semen and sale catalogue search functions available through angus.tech.

The workshop format allowed members to work through the systems themselves while Angus Australia staff were on hand to answer questions and provide assistance. This hands-on approach is an important component of the Masterclass concept, helping turn the range of information, technology and services available through Angus Australia into tools members can confidently use within their own businesses.

For Angus Australia, the Tamworth and Armidale Masterclasses provided another opportunity to connect directly with members and ensure the organisation’s investment in genetics, technology and member services translates into practical value at producer level.

Masterclass workshops will continue to be rolled out across the country, taking practical Angus Australia education and support directly to members.
