Yesterday a fire was lit at Dumaresq Dam that quickly got out of control, burning approximately 230 hectares with the majority of it on our family farm.
It was a long and stressful afternoon with fences cut, cattle and sheep moved. The emergency services worked tirelessly to get the flames under control. Two helicopters were assisting, numerous volunteers, the RFS and utes with water trailers. Surrounding houses in the area were told to evacuate as a precaution while the crews worked to contain it.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came to help - our neighbours, friends, family, people who travelled from other areas, and those who left their paying jobs to lend a hand. The support and willingness of this community to show up when it matter most is something we will never forget.
At this stage the fire is under control, but our emergency services are still working throughout our property and neighbouring properties to ensure everything is safe.
Unfortunately, due to the losses from the fire and already the lack of rain for our area we will have to be reducing some of our stud females to make sure we can feed the remaining throughout winter. I will have more details to follow.
Again, thank you to every single person who helped us in any way - fighting the fire, moving stock, checking in, or offering support. It means more than you know.
