For those wanting to follow the steer competition at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show, the key judging and presentation times are:

5.00pm – Led Steer Hoof Judging: Crossbred Class

9.00am – Led Steer Hoof Judging: Breeders Class
Followed by the Schools classes.

6.00pm – Led Steer Presentation of Awards

One of the highlights of the Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society Annual Magazine is showcasing the people and cattle behind our great breed.

As we are currently in the process of gathering stories for the next edition, it is a great time to look back at some of the fantastic contributions from our current magazine.

This story features Avonlea Livestock, and their visit from Greenham’s international customers.

Based along the Goulburn River, Avonlea runs 70 Murray Grey breeding cattle with a clear focus on quiet, functional and fertile females and cattle that perform in a commercial environment. Their program also embraces grass-fed production, regenerative farming practices, data collection and traceability, demonstrating the important role Murray Greys can play in producing quality beef for discerning markets..

It’s a great example of the diversity within our breed and the many ways our members are putting Murray Greys to work.

A big October is ahead for Murray Grey breeders, with four key stud sales offering cattle and genetics across Victoria, NSW and online.

From bulls, females and cow-and-calf units through to a complete herd dispersal and an exclusive genetics auction, there are plenty of opportunities for breeders looking to add quality Murray Grey genetics to their programs.

You can submit up to 3 photos per person.

The top photos will be shortlisted and put to the Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society Board for the final vote.

🏆 The winning photo will be featured on the front cover of the 2027 Murray Grey Annual Magazine.

The Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society is proud to be supporting the National All Breeds Junior Heifer Show this year as a Team Partner.

The NABJHS continues to provide an outstanding opportunity for young people from across the beef industry to develop their skills, build confidence and connect with others who share their passion for cattle and we look forward to seeing our breed well represented throughout the event.

There are also two great NABJHS initiatives we would particularly like to bring to members’ attention:

🔨 The inaugural **Funding Futures Auction** is now open for bidding.

This year, 12 young people have used their own skills, ideas and hard work to create auction lots that will help fund the next step in their future. The offering includes genetics, livestock services, photography, marketing, handmade products and more.

Most importantly, every dollar raised from each lot goes directly back to the young person behind it and towards the goal they have nominated.
