Random roll… 🎲

1. Hyline Browns — still yet to start laying… but they’ll get there! 🐓🐓🥚

2. How adorably cute 🥰 These wee plastic ‘play’ eggs were just too sweet not to share! 🥚🥚💚

3. The Maremma coat-cutting station — there were so many matted bits! 🫣👩‍🌾🐶

4. A young Hyline Brown — you can tell she’s still got some growing to do by that comb. 🐔🐔🐔

5. Some of the hens have started laying — our little ‘minis’ aren’t far away now! 🥚👩‍🌾🐓

6. We’re very grateful for the rain… not so much for the mud! 🫟🫟

7. We’ve made the decision to keep the hens in a tighter space for now, reducing the opportunity for wild birds to come into their area. 🦜🦩🐧🦆🦅😉

8. Harrowing the ground after the grass has been cut and the hens have had a good graze. The soil improves with every pass of the hens. 🪏🪱👩‍🌾👍

10. Had to zoom right out to fit the whole flower spike from this Xanthorrhoea in the photo. I’ve never seen one this long! 💚

Another week has rolled by. The sun is supposed to be shining over the weekend, and we’re looking forward to watching those seedlings grow. 🌱🌱🌱🌱

🥚 THURSDAY EGG DELIVERIES – EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST 🥚

We deliver eggs on a Thursday, to anyone between Delamere and Hindmarsh Island, SA. 🚚🥚👩‍🌾

We already have a good list of customers, but there’s room for a few more along the route. 🥚

Each delivery (minimum order) is for a tray of 30 eggs for $25, delivered to your door.

You can choose how often you’d like them:

🐓 Every week
🐓 Every fortnight
🐓 Once a month

Nice and simple — fresh eggs (laid within days of delivery) from our girls, delivered to you on a Thursday. 👩‍🌾🚚

If you’re interested, send us a message (with your general location) and whether you’d like a weekly, fortnightly or monthly delivery.

Our hens are still learning how to lay eggs - so deliveries are still a few weeks away! 🐓🐓

Also to everyone who is looking for our eggs at our retailers - they have all sold out and are eagerly awaiting for the hens to start laying! 🤞🤞🐓🥚👩‍🌾

The paddocks are definitely sodden! 🌧️

A very good amount of rain has fallen here — 40mm in the past 24 hours — and the paddocks are certainly showing it!

The hens are doing their best to keep out of the rain and wind, finding the sheltered spots and generally looking a little unimpressed with the weather. 🐔💨🌧️

Plenty of rain is great for the farm, but there’s definitely such a thing as too much at once! 🌱💚

1. Our new young hens, they have settled in so well, exploring their new surroundings. 🐓💚

2. We have an egg! The first to be laid - and was in the right spot! 👌🐓🧑‍🌾

3. Anyone seen one of these before… apparently an egg weigher 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔🥚

4. Just farming stuff! 🧑‍🌾😂🎧

5. Plastic eggs - we use these when training the hens on where to lay, in the nesting boxes and not the ground! 🤞👩‍🌾🙏

6. When not tending to the hens and eggs and all the things, volunteering to hunt for fungi was fun! 🍄🍄‍🟫🔬

7. Oh the wattle blossom - I couldn’t go past a piece for the kitchen. 🌼 👩‍🌾💚

8. A customer sent me this - egg appreciation. 👩‍🌾💚🙏

9. Vans on dusk - all the hens tucked up into bed. 🐓🥚💚👩‍🌾

10. Girls ready for their new homes, to live out the rest of their days in backyards! 👩‍🌾💚🐓

Another week has quickly passed us by! 💚

To all of our wonderful customers — thank you for your patience and continued support. We’ll be back as soon as we can; we just need to give the girls a little more time to settle in and get laying regularly. 🐓🥚

As you may know, we make sure our older hens go on to live out their lives on other farms and in backyards once they’ve finished their time with us. 🐓💚

And we absolutely love seeing where they end up!

This little video was just sent to us from a Christmas tree farm here on the Fleurieu Peninsula, where some of our retired girls are now happily living amongst Christmas trees. 🎄🐓

It honestly doesn’t get much better than this. 💚

A little H5 bird flu update from the farm… 🐓🌱 - and if you are sick of hearing about it, that’s totally understandable and we encourage you to scroll past this post! …

Still here? Read on….

With H5 bird flu continuing to turn up in wild birds across South Australia, we’re keeping a very close eye on things here. 👀

We’re a pasture-raised farm (as you already know), so our girls being outside, scratching, foraging and doing their thing is a really (really) important part of how we farm. But with wild birds being the main concern at the moment, we’re making a few changes to reduce the risk as much as we can.

Our new young hens have gone into a smaller paddock for now, with our guardian Maremma, Zeus, and the alpacas, Frankie and Archie, close by. 🐓🐕🦙🦙

The know that having the guardians close by it will help deter wild birds.

We’re also being extra mindful with our usual biosecurity — keeping equipment and footwear clean, limiting unnecessary movement, watching the flock closely and keeping a very close eye on what’s happening with wild birds around the farm. 👷‍♀️🥽🪬🧴

It’s a bit of a balancing act. We want our hens out on pasture — that’s how we farm — but we also want to do everything we reasonably can to protect them.

So for now… smaller paddock, guardians on duty and biosecurity turned right up. 👩‍🌾🐓💚

Fingers crossed we can keep our girls healthy and happy outside where they belong.
