Coffee, conversation and community at The Do Food Truck! ☕

Distinctive Options CEO Andre Carvalho recently welcomed Josh Bull MP for Sunbury to The DO Food Truck for a coffee and catch-up.

It was wonderful to have Josh reconnect with participants and staff. Having visited and supported our community many times over the years, he’s always a welcome visitor.

With support tailored to his goals and interests, David enjoyed a fantastic day out exploring the beautiful Chinese Precinct and Gardens in Bendigo. Walking through the gardens, he discovered a dragon, fed the fish , and took in the sights and sounds of this unique community space.🌿🐟🐉

Individual supports provide opportunities to build confidence, explore personal interests, increase community participation, and create meaningful experiences. It was wonderful to see David enjoying the outdoors and connecting with his local community. 😊💚

✨ MasterChef Goes Italian! 🍰

James, Sienna, Emily and Charlotte from Distinctive Options Sunbury's MasterChef program took a delicious trip to Italy today!

The group worked together to create a classic Italian tiramisu, brewing rich coffee and layering it with creamy mascarpone, delicate biscuits and a dusting of cocoa. ☕🍫 They also made a decadent chocolate mousse completely from scratch.

With plenty of chocolate, coffee and Italian-inspired flavours, everyone enjoyed getting creative in the kitchen. The best part? Tasting their delicious creations at the end! 🍰✨👏

What an incredible first day for The Do Food Truck at 24 Macedon St! ❤️

The team served well over 100 coffees and kept everyone well fed with hot toasties, burgers and plenty of tasty treats. And their classic cheese & tomato toastie was definitely a favourite!

It's a great new location -easily accessible from the footpath and next to the Village Green — the perfect spot to grab a takeaway coffee, smoothie, lunch or snack and enjoy a little sunshine. 🌿☀️

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, supported the Food Truck and made them feel so welcome. We’re all so excited to be part of the Macedon St community! ❤️

🚚☕ The DO Food Truck is Coming to DO Sunbury! ☕

We’re excited to be welcoming the DO Food Truck team to our DO Sunbury Courtyard at 24 Macedon Street from Monday 5 October 2026!🌟

This is a fantastic opportunity for participants to see firsthand how skills developed through our Pathways to Employment program can lead to meaningful employment outcomes, including Supported Employment. The Food Truck showcases the hard work, confidence and workplace skills participants gain as they progress towards their employment goals.

We wish the team every success in their new location and look forward to supporting them on this exciting journey! 💙

NDIS funding changes - information for participants, families and carers:

Following changes to NDIS legislation passed by Parliament in August, changes to some NDIS funding begin today, 1 October 2026. We know members of our community may have questions and concerns about what this may mean.

Current funding does not automatically change today. Participants can continue using their current plan and supports until their plan is reassessed or renewed. The changes apply to new and reassessed plans from today, and plan renewals from 1 February 2027.

Affected funding for social, economic and community participation will reduce by 50%, and improved daily living skills by 10%. These percentages apply to the affected funding, not a participant’s whole plan. The impact on services will vary depending on individual circumstances, protected supports and how much funding is currently being used.

Protected supports include employment supports, disability-related health supports and high intensity supports. Other parts of plans, including personal care at home, are unaffected by these reductions.

Eligible participants needing 24-hour disability support can apply through a new plan variation pathway if the reductions leave a gap in essential support.

Participants can also continue to request a plan variation or unscheduled reassessment where there have been significant and ongoing changes to their functional capacity, disability-related support needs or circumstances. A funding reduction alone does not qualify under this usual pathway.

Robert and Paul part of our Bendigo groups Gym Fitness program tried out the equipment at the YMCA Eaglehawk. They had a great time and are looking forward to being back next week!

🏉 Footy Colours Day Fun at Sunbury! 🏉

Distinctive Options Sunbury participants and staff celebrated the end of the footy season with a fantastic Footy Colours Day! Everyone proudly dressed in their team colours, showing off their footy spirit and favourite clubs.

The group enjoyed a delicious hot pie lunch 🥧, along with plenty of laughs, great conversations, and friendly footy banter. Although this footy season is over, everyone already has high hopes for next year!🏆

A big thank you to everyone who got involved and helped make the day such a fun and memorable celebration.

🌟 Building Connections & Exploring Opportunities! ☕️

This week we had the privilege of hosting 7 TAFE Gippsland (Bairnsdale Campus) students who are studying Certificates I & II in Work Education.

The students visited The Brew Crew Cafe and Banksia Fine Foods to learn more about what we do and explore what it’s like to work in a supported employment environment. Our Supported Employees were fantastic hosts, sharing their experiences, showing the students around and demonstrating some of the skills they use in their roles. 👏

Our team also enjoyed hosting morning tea and giving the students a tour of our facilities. It was a wonderful opportunity to build connections, share experiences and learn from each other. 🤝

And the highlight? Three students are now interested in joining us next year! 🎉

It’s fantastic to see collaborations like this helping open up pathways into purposeful employment. 💙
