CAMPFIRE COOKING

Always a popular night at the scout hall, our youth trying their hand a cooking on an open fire. Youth learn practical cooking skills in a fun, supported environment.

MINI MAKERS AT WORK

Our Joeys honed their skills in sewing, cooperation and concentration at this weeks felt pouch making.

A huge thanks to Penelope’s mum Crystal for helping our Joeys sew Balhannah coloured cutlery pouches! Great for keeping your cutlery clean and dry on camps.

It was so great to see the youth learning new things and working with their parents and friends to get the project done.

Today is Anzac Day, a national day of commemoration and reflection, honouring all those who served and sacrificed in the name of peace.

We are incredibly proud of our Balhannah Scout Group youth and leaders representing Scouts SA at the Oakbank Dawn Service, carrying the Anzac spirit with respect, pride, and deep appreciation honouring those who have fallen.

Lest we forget.

ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY SPARKS JOY

Benjamin from our Scout section along with supporting youth and leaders hiked over 40km this long weekend, from Parawa to Encounter Bay along the Heysen Trail.

Working towards the peak award in the Scout section Benjamin planned and led all aspects of this three day hike, carrying all his gear and food and water.

Weather could not have been more perfect and the views were breathtaking.

SCOUTS CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA

Our Balhannah Scout Group youth along with leaders and parents took to the streets of Balhannah on Monday night to pick up rubbish to contribute to Clean Up Australia Day efforts.

Lots of rubbish, food wrappers and bottles but this years strange finds were two road side reflector posts, a bike tyre and lots of tennis balls!

UN-BEE-LEIVABLE 🐝
Our Balhannah Scout Group Joeys were very lucky to get a private tour at the home if local apiarists and Joey parents in Woodside.

Our youth were able to see the bees through a special viewing wall, learn about the lifecycle of bees and try some fresh honey.

Joeys are learning all about bees this term, looking into bee friendly plants, bee hotels and caring for bees in the environment and treating bee stings when out in nature.

Did you know Scouts are 36% more likely to read for fun than their peers?

Recent national research by Resilient Youth Australia compared 47,000 Scouts (aged 8-18) with 110,000 peers, revealing some remarkable insights about the positive impact of Scouting.

In this digital age, where technological distractions are everywhere, Scouts stand apart. Reading is a pastime Scouts love, fuelling their curiosity about our history, expanding their knowledge, and allowing them to visit faraway worlds all within their own imagination.

Reading is beneficial to an individual’s well-being and personal development, and Scouts love it.
