Twisted Gum Wines

Twisted Gum Wines Single Vineyard Hand Crafted Granite Belt Wine Come try our wines - we are confident that you will be impressed by their quality.

Our small vineyard (approximately three hectares of vines) is perched high on a ridge near the village of Ballandean in the Granite Belt - Queensland's premier wine district. In our vineyard we focus on the production of premium quality wine grapes using sustainable agricultural practices. Our vineyard is at an altitude of 900m; we have low yields (usually less than 4 tonnes per hectare); we prune by hand; we harvest by hand; we use minimal irrigation and also spread thick mulch under vines.

The wood fire in Twisted Gum Cottage has been given a big work out this Brass Monkey Season!
So it is time for Tim to cut another load of firewood to keep all our cottage guests happy.
A job that is made easy with our AEG electric chainsaw and Hawk electric tipping cart - which can take a half tonne of wood in the tray.
Then finishing off with the trusty block-splitter - clearly no need for gym memberships up here at Twisted Gum Wines! πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Another glorious sunny winters day in Granite Belt Wine Country.
Michelle and I are out pruning our Verdelho today.
Can you believe that this is the 20th year that Michelle and I have pruned Twisted Gum Vineyard!!
Together we have pruned over 5000 vines each year for 20 years.
We start with the Cabernet Sauvignon in July and then move on to the Mourvedre, Shiraz, Grenache, Semillon and Chardonnay - and finish off with the Black Muscat and Verdelho in late August.
It is lots of work, but definitely worth it when harvest comes along!
100% single vineyard, hand pruned, hand harvested, small batch wines.πŸ‡πŸ‡

Hello Jack Frost!
He is certainly putting on a show at Twisted Gum Vineyard this morning!
The first frost of the year up at our house - 2 months late again this year - but well worth the wait!
I encouraged our brave Kelpie Koda to come outside and play in the frost with me but he was way too smart and stayed in his kennel 🀣🀣

Fantastic to have so many enthusiastic wine lovers visit our cellar door here at Twisted Gum Wines in recent weeks. Brass Monkey Season is in full swing!

Visitors regularly comment on how beautiful our cellar door building is.
And they are often surprised to hear that we moved this wonderful 1920s Queenslander (all the way from Waterford on the Logan River) up here in 2012 to create our new cellar door.

It now looks like it has been sitting here for many decades. Such a lovely setting for relaxed wine tasting inside at the big wooden tables or outside on the deck enjoying the winter sunshine! 🍷🍷

OK this is a big call, but Michelle and I have tasted all of our 2026 wines in recent weeks and we agree that these wines are arguably the best we have produced in all our 19 vintages here at Twisted Gum Wines!
Better that 2012 and 2022!
The quality of the fruit we picked from our vineyard this year is next level.
The whites and pinks are fresh and vibrant and are now all in bottle and ready to be released later this winter.
While the reds all show impressive fruit intensity supported by ripe fine grained tannins. These wines will be carefully racked and cellared for the next 12 months - very exciting! 🍷🍷

Our sheep are loving the small amount of rainfall we have had over the past few weeks.
The vineyard has been transformed from dusty and dry to now looking lovely and green again.
Fantastic to see how quickly a regeneratively farmed vineyard can bounce back!

2.2 tonnes of beautiful ripe Grenache picked at Twisted Gum Wines!
Our last pick of the season - and all before the end of February!
Unbelievable short and fast vintage this year. We usually finish picking in late March or sometimes early April - but never in February!
But very nice to finish on a high note - this Grenache looks amazing! πŸ‡πŸ‡

Shiraz and Cabernet both picked at Twisted Gum Wines in a single week!
All a full month earlier than "normal" - thanks to this unusually hot and dry summer this year!.
It has been a crazy busy week - we hand picked our Shiraz on Monday, crushed Shiraz Tuesday, started plunging it Wednesday, hand picked our Cabernet Thursday and then crushed it on Friday and now plunging 4 fermenters morning and night - sore back and arms but great to have such beautiful fruit safely in the winery!πŸ‡πŸ‡
Also great to have Rob home to do some of the plunging to give his old man a rest! πŸ‘
