The food van opened today for its first day of operation at Mt St Gwinear for the 2026 winter season.
Although there will be no snow in the car park and over the Baw Baw plateau for opening weekend.
The sense of winter is in the air and visitors were out & about enjoying the Baw Baw National Park.

Please remember all vehicles must carry correct fitting snow wheel chains during the Victorian Declared Snow Season (7 June – 4 October 2026) and fit when directed.

Opening hours over Kings Birthday Long Weekend.
Sunday - 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Monday - 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

If the Parks Victoria office is closed Officers will be performing duties or conducting Patrols within the area.

🎬 Alfies food van is ready to begin operating from the Mt St Gwinear car park for the winter season on Saturday 6th June.

⏰ Food van opening days & hours over winter are Friday’s, Saturday’s, Sunday’s, some Monday’s, Public Holidays and throughout School Holidays from 8 AM - 4:30 PM.

❄️🛞⛓️ Snow wheel chains are required to be carried for all vehicles and fitted when directed during the declared snow season at Mt St Gwinear commencing on Kings Birthday Long Weekend (6 June – 4 October 2026).

🅿️ Mt St Gwinear car park is a basic visitor site that includes toilets, change rooms and a heated shelter room in winter.
Visitors are encouraging to be self-sufficient.

🌿 Parks Victoria office will be open most days throughout winter for Visitor Management if closed officers will be conducting patrols & duties within the area.

⛑️ St Gwinear Ski Patrol is a dedicated voluntary team that operate out of the Ski Patrol base to the right hand side of the Parks Victoria office on weekends over winter.
Their team provide medical, rescue and hazard prevention services throughout Mt St Gwinear and the Baw Baw plateau.

Camping ⛺️ bookings available at Devil Cove & Lakeside campgrounds.
Candlebark campgrounds is now closed until toilet block upgrades are completed.

Did you know that the Australian Lyrebird is not named after a lying bird that mimics other animals & sounds and doesn’t know what it is! 😆

It was named after an ancient stringed instrument called a lyre dating back over 4,500 years (c. 2500 BCE).

As you can see from the tail of the Lyrebird it represents the ancient U shaped instruments arms.

It’s a fascinating fact.
Perhaps there are others that may know this too, but it’s always nice to share this information to those who don’t know.

Alfies Lake Eildon (Fraser Block) School Holiday Information.
The food van will be open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM daily during the school holidays, spanning April 10th to April 19th.
🥾With the hot weather subsiding, hiking season is in full swing.
🏕️Campsites are offered at a discounted rate of 50% off, approximately $17.30 per site per night for up to 6 guests.

*Candlebark Campgrounds are now CLOSED for their toilet block upgrades.
*Devil Cove & Lakeside Campgrounds ⛺️ are now OPEN.

Anzac Day Weekend all Campers will either camp in Devil Cove or Lakeside Campgrounds until Candlebark’s Campgrounds toilet block are upgraded and works are completed.
