Set along the Great Ocean Road, near Bells Beach, our w**ery brings together beautiful regional w**es, genuine hospitality and the relaxed charm of the Surf Coast.

We’re seeking a passionate and experienced hospitality professional to lead our cellar door operations, create memorable guest experiences and share the stories behind our w**es. This permanent part-time role offers the opportunity to lead a great team, grow w**e sales and become part of our close-knit w**ery as we continue to grow. Our 2025 Step Pinot Gris gained an outstanding 96 points from Halliday this August.

From a single vineyard at 450m in Harcourt, the fruit was left on skins for 12 hours before being pressed to neutral barriques. The result is a bright gold Pinot Gris with a complex bouquet of baked apple, quince, acacia honey and candied ginger. Concentrated and dry, with a beautifully balanced palate, it’s an excellent food w**e with the potential to age gracefully over the next two to three years.

The 2025 Step Pinot Gris is also the first of our w**es to feature our new white and blue bottle caps, marking a fresh new look for the 2025 Bellbrae Estate range.

Our Terroir

Our vineyards are shaped by a unique and layered terroir, with soils that tell the story of the land beneath our vines. From the rich topsoil and sandy loam of the upper layers, through calcareous marl and into deeper limestone and ironstone, each layer contributes to the character of our vineyard. These diverse soil profiles play an important role in drainage, vine health and ultimately the expression and complexity of our w**es. Limestone in particular is an integral part of creating our w**es that maintain structure and freshness.

Our 2024 Bellbrae Estate Bird Rock Pinot Noir received 95 points from Halliday.

"30% whole bunches. A deep, bright ruby red. Lifted with aromas of briary red fruits, rose petal and some whole bunch–derived to***co scents. Even better on the medium-bodied, poised and nicely detailed palate. The tannins are supple and nicely integrated into the w**e. This will provide plenty of enjoyment now and over the next four to six years at least." - Philip Rich

A beautifully expressive Pinot Noir, bringing together vibrant red fruit, subtle spice and a refined, silky finish. Elegant yet full of character, this is a w**e to enjoy now or let develop further in the cellar.

July marks the heart of pruning season at Bellbrae Estate.

Throughout June and July, we're hand pruning three of our vineyard blocks: our Front Yard vineyard (planted in 1999, 0.5ha), our Old Vineyard (planted in 1999, 3ha), and our Young Vineyard (planted in 2015, 3ha).

Every vine is pruned using the ancient Poussard method, a technique that follows the vine's natural sap flow while carefully shaping its structure for the season ahead. It's a slower, thoughtful approach that promotes long-term vine health and longevity.

After a very dry start to the year, June brought a welcome 120mm of rain, replenishing the soil profile and ensuring any future rainfall can now flow into our dam. July has been much drier, with 22mm so far, but the extra sunshine has given us more time to focus on pruning.

Our goal this season is to produce around 2kg of fruit per vine, or approximately 5 tonnes per hectare. Given our limestone-rich soils and moderate natural fertility, we believe this is the ideal balance to produce concentrated, high-quality fruit.

This year we've also made an exciting change in our Young Vineyard. For the first time, the upper and middle sections have been pruned using a unilateral system, leaving a single fruiting cane wrapped uphill along the wire. With the limestone sitting just beneath the surface, strong coastal winds, and vines that are still only 11 years old, we believe this approach will encourage stronger shoot growth and more intensely flavoured fruit than the traditional two-cane system.

Every season teaches us something new, and we're always adapting our vineyard practices to suit our unique site.

Stay tuned, we can't wait to see how this year's decisions shape the next vintages.

"There's a lot going on here from the first whiff. Savoury with aromas of crushed rock, beeswax and oyster shells that follow onto the concentrated, chalky and still quite closed palate, yet the finish is long. I can see this unwinding and blossoming over the next three to five years if not longer." - Philip Rich
