Standish The Standish 2024 | Barossa Valley📍🇦🇺

Laycock Family Vineyard, Greenock. 100% Shiraz 🍇

Intense, brooding, savoury and spicy on the nose. Concentrated dark fruit aromas, black plums, black cherries, subtle peppery spices, dark florals, and liquorice. Full-bodied, richly concentrated, and generous with a wonderful palate weight, not too much, on point without being overwhelming. Glossy dark fruits matching the nose, spice notes of similar complexion, more pepper, black olive and meatiness perhaps. Well structured, textured, balanced, and long on the finish. Ticks the all the boxes, though maybe offers a little less finesse and detail than in previous years. I don’t doubt it’d improve after a few days of air (which admittedly I didn’t give it) and after all, when it comes to BV Shiraz… in Dan we trust! 👏🏼🍷

Coriole Yinku Single Vineyard Fiano 2025 | Adelaide Hills📍🇦🇺

Pithy lemons, waxy lemon skins, golden apples, some white peach, chamomile, dandelion, and jasmine on the nose. Medium-bodied, superbly textural, fresh and borderline exotic on the palate. Lemons, golden apples, dried honey, and chamomile tea with an intriguing undercurrent of minerally nuance and complexity. Very subtly spicy. Wonderful length on the finish. Excellent stuff. Highly recommended 👏🏼🍷

Everything about this was exactly what I imagined it’d be, and while many lorded wines struggle to match the hype, this calmly asserted itself and etched its memory permanently into my mind. Both a forever wine and moment that I’m beyond grateful to have experienced 🙏🏼🍷

Standish Wine Co Lamella 2024 | Eden Valley📍🇦🇺

Year after year this is generally my favourite of the Standish Cuvees. It’s not necessarily better than the others, it’s perhaps stylistically a better fit for me and what I look for. There’s also limited point in waffling on in a bid to sound somewhat poetic, so here’s the executive summary; The concentration is outrageous. Thick and inky, gravelly and firm. Black and blue fruit, florals, olive tapenade, granite. Somewhat of a mix between 2016 and 2018 for me. Remarkable length and balance. Without question this sits amongst the best from the region 👏🏼🍷

Yelland and Papps Roussanne 2025 | Greenock, Barossa Valley📍🇦🇺

Ordinarily Rhone whites and I don’t get on. However, what you see left in that there glass is all that was left after an initial and somewhat tentative “let’s see” sip…

Lemons, pith, apple pie, florals, bees wax, nougat, and chamomile on the nose. Medium-bodied and fresh, with wonderful balance, concentration, and texture. Lemony with golden orchard fruits, delicate spices, and nutty qualities. And whilst the texture ventures into creamy town, the acidity is excellent and provides a mouthwatering lift through the finish. This is delicious wine. Loved it!

Francois Milet & Fils Beaune 1er Cru ‘Champs-Pimont’ 2018 | Burgundy📍🇫🇷

Slightly muted and a little backward at first on the nose. With time, black cherry, dark plum, boysenberry emerge through the fog, backed by woody spices, hints of mushroom, and forest floor. Medium-full on the palate, well structured with a ripe black cherry and plum profile, balanced savoury spice, and fine firm tannins. It’s good overall. Though it lacks a little impact. Perhaps it’s in a dull phase. I’ll revisit my remaining in a few years or after a 24hr decant 👍🏼🍷

Patrick of Coonawarra Home Block Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 | Coonawarra📍🇦🇺

Black plum, cassis and blackberry, sage, black olive, liquorice, to***co and cigar box, with a subtle pencil shavings quality on the nose. Full-bodied on the palate with a concentrated dark fruit profile, well balanced with savory nuances of dark chocolate, peppermint, and sage. The tannins are fine, structure building, and well contained, delivering a dryness to the finish that’s long and composed. Good stuff 👌🏼🍷

Moss Wood Autrement Pinot Noir 2025 | Margaret River📍🇦🇺

Pretty, assured, and confident on the nose, showing red cherry, juicy wild strawberry, hints of burnt orange, liquorice, and toasty oak. Medium-bodied, finely structured, and elegant on the palate. Red and black berries, Negroni-esque bitterness, subtle rounding oak spice, fine tannins. Deliciously balanced. Lovely stuff 👌🏼🍷
