Baron Philippe de Rothschild Escudo Rojo Baronesa P 2021 | Maipo Valley, Chile 📍🇨🇱

81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and 4% Carmenere. 14 months in French oak, 65% new and 35% 1-year-old barrels.

There’s nothing shy about what this has to offer. Old school feels here, aristocratic, with a dark and brooding black fruit profile, pot puri, pencil shavings, cigar box, toasted oak spices, vanilla and hints of caramel on the nose. Full-bodied, structured, and intense on the palate. Spiced dark fruit notes dominate and run wide and long. Blackberry, blueberry, mulberry, cedar, cigar, nutmeg, coffee bean, vanilla. The acidity and tannins are persistent and high, structure building and freshness providing. It’s very long through the finish, impressively so. This’ll be superb in 5-10 years🍷👌🏼

Howard Park Arbor Noave Fiano 2025 | Margaret River📍🇦🇺

Granny Smith apples, apple skins, green pears, pithy lemons and waxy skins, subtle florals and white pepper on the nose. Medium-bodied, crisp, and zesty on the palate. Lemony citrus notes, sweet pear, green apple, undertones of salty mineral nuance. Good finish. Wonderfully drinkable and moreish. Yum👌🏼🍷

Mewstone Syrah 2022 | Tasmania📍🇦🇺

Very light ruby in the glass and super savoury, spicy, and brambly on the nose, woody herbs, dried meats, smoke, small red berry fruits. Just medium-bodied, crunchy, and lithe. Savoury flavours dominated for the first three days, just ripe red berries lending a subtle sweetness and crunchiness. It’s a good wine, it’ll divide opinion no doubt. By day three I’d really started to enjoy what it had to offer 👌🏼🍷

Ashton Hills Reserve Chardonnay 2025 | Adelaide Hills📍🇦🇺

Powerful and tightly coiled on the nose showing lemony, white grapefruit, citrusy qualities, underripe white nectarines, white florals, and very subtle biscuity spice. Medium bodied, linear and driven on the palate, super zesty and zippy with acidity. White stone fruits and yellow white citrus, lovely concentration and freshness, good finish. Ticks all the boxes. Yum 🤤

Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 | Margaret River📍🇦🇺

92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

This is right up there with the best in recent memory. Wonderfully complex on the nose. Blackberries, cassis, raspberry, violets, cedar, to***co, graphite and pencil shaving, something exotic there too, nutmeg or clove. Medium-full on the palate, superb detail and elegance. The fruit and spice complexity seems effortless yet intense. Juicy cassis, violet, pencilly graphite and cigar box. Excellent acidity and balance. This’ll age like a gem. T’is a beautiful wine 👏🏼🍷

Ashton Hills Piccadilly Valley Pinot Noir 2025 | Adelaide Hills📍🇦🇺

Wild strawberries, red cherries, ripe cranberry, underbrush and subtle sweet earthen spices on the nose. Just medium-bodied, fresh, crunchy and polished on the palate. Red fruit focused with a wonderfully tight acid line and fine dusty tannins. Hints of oak spice emerge with air time, enough to build intrigue and curiosity sip after sip, yet it never over extends its welcome. It’s a lovely drink. Balanced and in great form 👏🏼🍷

Welland Wines Old Hands Shiraz 2022 | Barossa Valley📍🇦🇺

Stylistically this is 101 BV Shiraz, generous, spicy, plush. Dark plums, mulberry, black cherry, rolling to***co, cedar, molasses, and subtle vanilla notes on the nose. Full-bodied, structured, and balanced on the palate. Dark fruits dominate with a subtle sweet berry freshness, toasted spices, coffee beans, and to***co nuances. Creamy through the finish. T’is a very well done example of BV Shiraz 👏🏼🍷

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec.

Sneaky good wine this. Blackberries, cassis, dark cherries, graphite and pencil shavings, lavender, sage, very fine oak spice, subtle hints of vanilla. Medium-bodied, juicy, crunchy, fresh on the palate. Cassis, black cherry, dark raspberries, violets, sweet wood spices, firm fine tannins, fresh acidity. Elegant. Lovely weight and persistence through the finish. This is clearly a wine in need of 3-5 years in the cellar, and it should be a real treat if given the opportunity to mature 👌🏼🍷

Galafrey Wines Riesling Müller-Thurgau 2025 | Mount Barker📍🇦🇺

Lemon pith, white peach, green apple skins, and orange blossom on the nose. Beautifully focused and tensile on the palate, pithy lemon, green apple, white peach skins, frisky acidity, and an undertone of quartzy mineral nuance. Long finish. Really Delicious 👌🏼🍷

Wild Duck Creek Duck Muck 2023 | Heathcote📍🇦🇺

With the exception of Chris Ringland’s Dry Grown Barossa Ranges Shiraz, and the Sryahmi La La, I don’t recall trying a wine that delivers the level of concentration, intensity, complexity, and balance that Duck Muck offers each and every year it’s released. It’s a singular expression, in someways unmatched, that’s at the very top of its particular pyramid.

The nose on the 23 is grade A blueprint Duck Muck. Richly spiced black and blue fruits, black cherry, clove, cardamom pod, cola and rolling to***co, vanilla husk and musk. The palate is effortlessly silky, velvety, full, rich and textured. Black, blue, and red fruits with a seemly endless array of spice nuances, fine powdery, gripping tannins and attention grabbing acidity. The finish is more or less endless, barely gone before the next sip commences. What a treat. Excellent 👏🏼🍷
