This year marked the 50th Anniversary of the Lardner Park Steer Trial and what a way to celebrate by taking home the win š with two of our Black Angus Cross Steers. A credit to great line of cattle we have been breeding towards these past few years and to see the live results on the board at the end of the competition shows what we have been aiming towards in our programme.
The Lardner Park Steer Trial consists of 50 pairs of cattle from different breeds across the country on the only Grass-Fed Steer trial in Australia. Cattle are managed under independently controlled grazing conditions, aiming to provide valuable information on the growth and carcass quality attributes of the steers. Entry weight was between 280-385kg liveweight. Cattle were inducted on the 12th June of 2025 and weighed 5 times throughout the trial period. The final weighing day was November 25th 2025, before they were sent to the abattoirs.
The programme specs were set based on the Coles āGrazeā programme and all cattle were MSA graded. With their specs on carcass weight being between 220-330kg and Fat Range between 4-14mm. Our two winning steers averaged 278kg and 272kg Carcass Weight. Their Fat range was 9mm and 13mm. MSA index sat them at 65.99 and 62.47.
On behalf of Karn Station we would like to thank the major š„ sponsor of the trial Gallagher Australia along with all the event sponsors and organisers.
